Do you have to have a special licence to fly this in public?

If you live in UK (as of 31st December 2020) and own either the original mini or the Mini 2. You must have an operator ID at a cost of £9 per year. This ID, must be placed ON each and every drone you own. NOTE each time you apply for an operator (every year), the ID will change, so it is suggested, you not permanently mark your drone.

Also while it is not necessary, for you to also get a flyer ID, which is free and requires you to pass a 40 question test (pass mark is 30) many will suggest you do it anyway. Not only will it show that you have at least read the drone and model aircraft code, but you will feel fr better for doing it.. and it's free and you can take it as many times as you like, so nothing to lose.

This the mini and mini 2, and only if they are below the 250g weight. This means if you add anything to the drone, that takes it over that weight, then you will be flying illegally.

Check out the CAA website, visit the drone section, read the drone and model aircraft code, get your operator ID and take the flyer ID test too and happy flying.

The mini and mini 2, are the least restricted of DJI drones, as far as where you can fly them. So don't go watching videos on youtube, showing you a mini or mini 2 flying 3-4 miles. A drone MUST be kept in line of sight (without artificial visual aids except spectacles) and must also stay below the 400ft maximum height above the ground..

Follow the rules, check for any flight restrictions, check the conditions using UAV forecast app, fly safely and practice, practice, practice...

does this dj mini two have the follow me feature ? has it been added or you have to use a controller at all times ?

No the Mini 2 doesn't have follow me in the DJI firmware and software. BUT if you spend £20 on Litchi you can have the feature as well as being able to program full autopilot routes and camera tracking etc. The much more expensive DJI Mini 3 does have follow me and a better camera BUT at this point in time does not work with the amazing 3rd party Litchi app. Hope this helps

Do I have to purchase the care refresh aswell. I have read somewhere that you can’t fly the drone without. Thanks in advance.

Of course u don't have to buy the care refresh as well its not compulsory no...its your decision alone ... I did buy it with my mini 2 the x2yr plan... my first outdoor drone did a flyaway on me a SG906 MAX...did not RTH when asked..so I wanted peace of mind ..what drone experience u have with drones? I will tell u the mini 2 was a significant step up in class from said lost drone ie connection and range I've done a 7.85km with mini 2 and connection is brill in open areas but of course less so in build up areas but it always comes back if connection lost to the home point once u check that home home point updated mini 2 is of course entry level pro drone so if u are like me and use it for casual  hobby fun  use its ace drone if u looking for obstacle avoidance u may need to get a better DJI drone as mini 2 does go36mph in sport mode and doesn't have obstacle avoidance
