Jeff Beck is true rock legend. From his time with the Yardbirds in the sixties, through the Jeff Beck Group and throughout his solo career his unique guitar style and constant desire to explore new musical areas and sounds has won him the admiration of his peers and the adoration of legions of fans. In 2007 Jeff Beck performed a series of concerts at the renowned Ronnie Scott's club in London. Review: The Jeff Beck Show -- amazing then, and amazing now - I picked up this 2007 recording after seeing Jeff Beck live in Atlanta 8/22/18. His live show still sounds quite similar, so it's a good document of the concert. The 16-track first disc is all instrumental, like his great Seventies albums Blow By Blow and Wired, and it is a great selection, perfectly paced with up-tempo numbers alternating with several ballads. Vinnie Colaiuta is the drummer, and he is key to the band's sound, able to play the complex fusion rhythms. He was the drummer for the 2018 tour as well. There are six cuts that were also played in the 2018 show -- Stratus by Billy Cobham, the beautiful ballad Nadia (You Had It Coming), Big Block (Guitar Shop), 'Cause We Ended As Lovers (Blow By Blow), Brush With the Blues (Who Else!) and A Day In the Life. This recording features a young woman bassist, Tal Wilkenfeld. The 2018 concert featured another woman bassist, Rhonda Smith, who has played with Prince and George Clinton. The second disc on the expanded 2015 version includes five vocal tracks. There are two blues numbers with Eric Clapton, and it's great to hear Beck and Clapton playing together. Joss Stone sings People Get Ready. Imogen Heap sings her song Blanket, and Rollin' and Tumblin,' which she recorded with Beck on You Had It Coming (2000). These five tracks are all excellent. The seven songs with the Big Town Playboys, in a retro Fifties style, are not my cup of tea. This is a mandatory addition to the collection of any Jeff Beck fan. It can also serve as a great introduction for newcomers as it samples songs from across his career since the Sixties, including the opening Beck's Bolero.

Jeff Beck Reigns Supreme
I have always been a fan of Jeff Beck, probably the most innovative of all guitarists. CD2 is magic. The songs with Eric Clapton and Joss Stone are stellar, but it is the two tunes performed with Imogen Heap that are the standout songs from this performance. Beck's guitar tone cannot be replicated, and this is never more evident than on "Rollin' And Tumblin'".

Exceptional live performance
I bought this after Jeff Beck had passed away. I heard him play in the past, but realized I didn't have any of his music. Holy cow, his guitar work was way above perfection. Two CD set, the first one is instrumental and the second one features guests like Eric Clapton and Joss Stone. And tune in to Jeff's superior bassist, Tal Wilkenfeld. Her bass is second to none. Overall, I highly recommend this CD.

A Keeper
This the work that renewed my interest in Jeff Beck. Being a guitarist myself I have strived to intentionally not listen to people who might influence me so as to create music which is purely my own. However, Jeff Beck is so far into his own world of greatness that I can appreciate it without it consuming me if you can relate to that. Anyway, Jeff Beck, Tal Welkenfield, and I apologize for not remembering the names of the keyboardist and drummer but WOW! You need to get this one! Just go ahead and smash that piggy bank if you have to but you need this recording. Just take my word for it. I have been playing and performing nearly as long as he and I can tell you from an impartial view....he is the genuine article! Get this recording!

Though initially I wanted this show to be more like the excellent '99 in Japan or the 2001 Massey ...
I already had the single-disc CD of Jeff @ Ronnie's, but it didn't include the guest performers - Imogen Heap, Joss Stone, Eric Clapton, nor the set with the Big Town Playboys that appears on the Blu-ray version of the DVD. This double CD also includes those performances. Jeff has done alright by me on his 'Performing This Week... ', as even though someone sent me a homemade copy of the show prior to the DVD being available, I've purchased the DVD, then the Blu-ray DVD, the CD and now this two-disc CD set, plus several copies of the DVD I've gifted to friends. Indeed, I typically have a spare copy to give to friends who are wowed by the show when I introduce them to it. Though initially I wanted this show to be more like the excellent '99 in Japan or the 2001 Massey Hall bootlegs - where the band is on a bigger stage and Jeff is in ripping form - 'Performing This Week... ' reveals a much more, though no less intense Jeff and band - Vinnie Colaiuta, Jason Rebello and Tal Wilkenfeld; all sensational and spirited players - easing (with intensity) through a set that includes 'Beck's Bolero', 'Stratus', 'Freeway Jam', 'Brush With The Blues' and many more classic Beck numbers, while Joss Stone guests on 'People Get Ready', Imogen Heap does her own 'Blanket' (one of the show highlights) and 'Rolling & Tumbling', before Eric Clapton - whose place Jeff filled in the mid-60s Yardbirds - arrives onstage for 'Little Brown Bird' and 'You Need Lovin''. (The latter tune, originally by Muddy Waters, is where Robert Plant pinched the lyric for Zeppelin's 'Whole Lotta Love', so there is some irony in the fact that separate glimpses of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page enjoying the show appear in the video.) Though the CD doesn't reveal who is in the audience (nor does the DVD offer much insight), apparently Queen's Brian May, the late Gary Moore, some of the Shadows, and just about anyone who is anyone was there. Paul McCartney, whose office is just up the end of Frith St. in Soho Square, is also said to have popped in one night to have a look at one of his very favourite guitarists. And with Beck and his band playing and sounding this good, who could blame him?!

A Must Have
Saw this on some obscure Sat channel and was blown away. If you get the DVD, look who is in the audience, they are blown away by Jeff and the band.
