When using your meter directly you risk damaging your meter. **Q: what gauge are the cables that connect to the battery and terminal. Can I start and run the vehicle with the tester connected?** A: No, they are a light gauge wire. Too light of wire to handle load of starter. **Q: Does it come with instructions?** A: not really, you have to look at a video from mac or matco which has same tool just their name. its hard the first time ,but you can figure it out after you start to use it. **Q: This seems useless. Why not use a clamp on dc meter?** A: I liked it because it has a fuseable link on both leads and you can connect your probe to it. I blew a couple fuses while trying to track down a short and it prevented an damage to my rather inexpensive multimeter. It's designed so that clamp it to the battery directly. If you already have leads with clamps then yes this would probably not be helpful to you. It worked great for me fixing a slow drain on our Jeep. I mostly found it helpful while pulling fuses until I found the circuit that was causing the trouble. I could have spent a fortune having it in the shop so I figured spending a couple bucks on this was a much better option. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works great *by B***W on September 30, 2025* Great tool to have for the tool box ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent product *by J***E on September 20, 2025* This tool is an excellent piece to help locate a parasitic drain. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Must have for parasitic draw on newer vehicles *by C***D on May 15, 2023* This tester does exactly what it’s supposed to do. The switch is not wired wrong. When the switch is flipped on the power goes threw just the clamp wires and not the DMM tester. Which is a must have for me because my BMW takes a while to go into sleep mode. Before sleep mode my car draw enough amps to blow my DMM tester fuse. Once my car is into sleep mode I can flip the switch into the off position which lets the current flow there my DMM tester to read the A or mA. As long as I switch it back to the On position I can even remove my DMM tester to check fuses without waking the car up. In my case I have more than one DMM tester and did not need to do so. I did have to replace the 10 amp fuse on the clamp side of the tester to a 15amp. I know the directions say to not use a fuse larger than 10 amps but I had to because my car kept blowing the 10amp mini fuse on the clamp side.
