How do you open the pins? I'm unable to do so

There is a tiny bit of screw at the tip of the pin that dis/engages with the backing. I still struggled with some, but they were impossible until I saw the threaded tip. My thumbs are numb from manipulating them.

Does it tighten really tightly?

You can make them as loose or as tight as you want them

Can this be use in jegging?

I have a set installed in a pair of jean leggings and they work okay. Not great, but okay. The main issue is that the backing presses into my waist and it's uncomfortable.

Do these have to be installed on the side of your jeans or could you install them in the back with just one?

You can put them anywhere you want but they will cause the material to gather where you put them. It's easier to hide the gather on the sides. It also depends on how much you need to shrink the waistline.
