Which one do you actually get?** A: I got the textured looking ones. Some of these insects are different than the ones I got. I will say that my grandchildren have loved them! They sort by color, they count, they make patterns, etc. Hope this helps **Q: What do you use for a pattern guide for these?** A: There is a free pattern on Pinterest for a mason jar. After printing that out, I cut it down to size and laminated it. Then I hide a bunch of the bugs and my daughter finds/catches it and puts it "in" the mason jar. She sorts by color or by bug type or we count. I also do sensory play bins with her with these (mixing it among various stuff). These bugs are well made and look realistic (other than the color).
