Product Description Album of the Year Winner! ... "The musical equivalent to Braveheart" (Billboard Magazine) Steve McDonald's celtic contemporary music soars with cinematic tales of Scottish history. Enhanced CD includes musical video. No Clan exercised such a powerful influence in early Highland history as the Macdonalds. Somerled emerged early in the 12th Century as a leader to expel the Vikings from Southwest Scotland. His marriage to a Norse princess made him a formidable adversary to the Scottish king. Somerled's grandson, Donald, became the founder of "Clan Donald" - literally the "children of Donald" - giving his descendants and followers the name Macdonald or "son of Donald". Review "The musical equivalent to Braveheart!" --~ BillboardALBUM OF THE YEAR WINNER! --COVR Awards"Steve McDonald's evocative new music transcends cultural traditions even as it pays homage to the deep and mystical roots of Scotland. His "Loch Lomond" is immediate and visceral, breathing new life into a time-honored love ballad. I had the great pleasure of listening to his CD with three generations of Scottish Americans; for the young, McDonald's music provided an awakening - an access code to a proud heritage. For the elders, an honoring and passing of the cultural torch - music that speaks to the feature as it conjours the spirits of the past. Today there is an amazing revival of interest in Scotland as a deep spiritual stronghold, a place of ancient ritual and indomitable survival spirit; a country where people draw their strength from the Mother Earth and their traditions much like the Native American. Steve McDonald's auspicious new work should be the theme music for this revival." --~ John Fusco, Writer/Producer (Young Guns, Thunderheart, Loch Ness, Spirit, Hildago and more) P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); From the Label McDonald is a Scottish singer making an impressive stateside debut with a ballad that outlines the rites of manhood amid a soft rumble of tribal drums and wafting bagpipes a provacative and compelling effort that leaves you hungry for more. McDonald has a dignified baritone delivery that occasionally recalls Chris Rea and stands tall against flourishes of harmony. Going through a tough divorce with all the usual battles inside during the early 90s, I lost touch with my sons for a while. I'd sometimes put on opera and take in what it felt like not to be able to live with my daughter. But sons? This was the CD I'd play then, when it was time for me as a man to take in what masculine relationships and tough times all meant. Good stuff here. Tears, too, if you want them. Emotional fuel, help for greasing the skids of a creaky guy heart. Put these sounds on I say during the times it is right to reflect on on a dad's connection (or not) he has with his sons, a man's connection (or not) he has with his father, with his brothers. Soul food for the ears and the heart. I lost my dad four decades ago; he was 100% Welsh and gone in a flash back then, when I was age 21. We would have enjoyed listening to these cuts together. Yes, I wore out my first original CD of Sons of Somerled and had to get another this summer (2010)online. I made a copy for myself and gave the 2nd original to my youngest as a birthday present when he turned 29. My first introduction to this CD was from a walk by in front of a shop on Pacific Garden Mall in Santa Cruz some ten years ago. It called to me. I bought a copy. No accident. These songs never cease to move me as a dad when I put them on the boom box while doing guy stuff in the garage. As a son, too, I am moved. And,as a brother. God knows I could do better at each. The words and tunes here take me back to images I breathed in during a favorite guy movies, like--Rob Roy--and times when women, as wonderful as they be, are clueless to the mystery of masculine relationships. In a culture often at war with masculinity, yes, grease the guy skids with these tunes I say. And often. Review: Old School - Great CD from a great artist.

Absolutely Magnificent Scottish Music & Musical Storytelling
A fantastic & hauntingly beautiful tribute to Scottish Island & Highlands using traditional musical instruments. Many of MacDonald’s songs are filled with ancestral stories. One of my favorite CD’s. I own two copies, one for a backup to always enjoy. Recommend it highly.

thrills and happiness
The album calls to my blood and heritage like not many do. Mr. McDonald's voice crawls into the mind and brings forth images of warriors defending their homeland. Terrific album to listen.

I love the cd. Oddly enough sometimes it doesn't quite play right, but some of the time it's fine??

True Scottish Sound!
I came upon this cd by accident, but what a fortunate accident that has turned out to be! The pipes, the drums, and the strings carry one back to the Highlands! Several of these songsI learned in high school chorus in Missouri, but Steve McDonald gives them a new exciting life. It is a lengthy cd, with 16 tracks and more than an hour of ballads. It was a great purchase, and fulfilled with the characteristic Amazon efficiency.

Steve McDonald loves the history and culture of Scotland. The album is a musical celebration of the country. Delightful melodies. Evocative. I can definitely recommend this to those who enjoy folk music. McDonald's singing voice is remarkably rich and ideal for this kind of music.

Although slow in arriving, it was worth the wait. The music captures the spirit of the people and the lands of Somerled and Aengus Oc

Titel : Live on my warrior son - ein Gänsehautsong, der mir sehr gefällt. Klasse! Live on beloved one 4. :-) Klare Harfenbegleitung, sanft untermalt (Over the ages and over the sea) von einem mehrstimmigen Chor - klasse! 15.Journey of the warrior soul: ein düsterer Ausklang mit hoffnungsvoller Harfe, ohne Gesang, rein instrumental - Gänsehaut-Titel.....
