## Overview

Jimbu, a unique Himalayan spice derived from Allium hypsistum and Allium przewalskianum, is a staple in Nepali and Tibetan cuisines. Packaged in a 1 oz jar and double-sealed for maximum freshness, this spice is perfect for adding an authentic touch to your culinary creations.

## Description

Jimbu is a dried spice herb from onions family used extensively in cooking of Nepal and Tibet. Stalks from Jimbu plants (Allium hypsistum and Allium przewalskianum) are sundried and stored for use as a spice. A typical use of jimbu includes frying in butter or oil to bring out their flavors, and then adding it to a dish. In Tibetan Kingdom of Mustang, Jimbu is used to spice vegetables, lentils, pickles, and even meat. In rest of Nepal, it is commonly used to flavor lentils (daal).

Review: High cost, low yield - I was surprised (and disappointed) by how little Jimbu I received in my container, considering the cost. However, it is incredibly difficult to find a place selling Jimbu, so I went ahead and purchased it for the convenience of being able to make some Dal Bhat. Now that I've had my dal bhat fix, I think I'll wait until I can make a trip to a speciality spice store to see if I can find it there for a cheaper price. If not, maybe I'll just become a spice importer! :) For those in the Seattle area: you can supposedly find Jimbu at Market Spice in Pike Place Market. (206) 622-6340 I'm not sure their prices would be any better, but I'll definitely check it out.
