## Description

Virtjoule Heat Set Insert Tips for Sizes M2, M2.5, M3, M4, and M5 - Soldering Iron Tips for 3D Printer Users, 3D Printing Accessories Compatible with Hakko FX-888D and Weller SP40NKUS Soldering Irons - desertcart.com

## Features

- IMPROVING 3D PRINTING PROJECTS: Using 3D printers lets you create amazing projects. Innovative 3D printing tools like Virtjoule Heat-Set Insert Tips allow you to set threaded brass inserts into plastic to increase the strength of your part and also help you assemble and disassemble projects multiple times. These soldering tips, compatible with Hakko FX-888D and Weller SP40NKUS solder irons, make the job easy. With their square shoulder and slick finish, inserts won't stick on the tool and pull out.
- OPTIMIZED SLIM PROFILE DESIGN: We originally created these long-shank tips to be compatible with the Hakko FX-888D iron. This design allows you to reach deeper into 3D-printer parts and tight corners without touching the side of your 3D-printed or injection molded part. The hot iron heats the tip and the brass insert, allowing it to melt into the piece. When set, the iron pulls out cleanly without sticking. A normal conical shape tip will often stick to the insert and pull it back out, ruining the project.
- ONE SET, DIFFERENT TIP SIZES: Tip sizes include M2, M2.5, M3, M4, and M5. M2.5 is a popular hole size for Raspberry Pi circuit boards. M3 is a popular size for Arduino circuit boards. Our meticulously crafted soldering tips are smooth, and the edges are perfectly rounded, making a very slick slip between the tip and a brass insert.
- COMPACT TIP CRADLE: These Virtjoule Heat-Set Insert Tips come with a convenient tip cradle that helps keep them together when they're not used. This set is a great addition to a 3D printer toolbox as it offers a wide size range for flexibility in picking the most appropriate insert you need for each 3D printing project.
- DIAMETER & HEAT TRANSFER OPTIMIZED TIPS: Virtjoule pioneered the niche of brass insert tips with shapes that allow access to tight and deep corners of 3D printed parts. We serve 3D printer and injection molding markets of scientists, engineers, designers, and makers with insert tips that reliably and efficiently release heat-set inserts from soldering irons.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Would these fit the Anbes soldering iron that comes in the $20 kit sold on Amazon?**
A: Short answer is possibly. On one of the Anbes listings, I see that someone asked where they could find replacement tips and another user pointed them to a set of 900M tips. We've studied the 900M tips and believe that an iron compatible with 900M may be compatible with our Hakko model meant for the FX888D. The 900M tips have a shank that is a bit longer than ours, but the identical diameter. That being said, we don't own this iron and can't be 100% sure. I think we'll order that iron ourselves and find out. I will report back here when I have a solid answer.

**Q: What temperature you set it up to insert in pla? does it work with petg? (and what temperature for it?) thank you!**
A: PLA has one of the lowest melting temperatures of the common 3D printer filaments. I'll quote some temperatures here, but be aware that the temperature can range 10's of degrees depending on the filament you buy. ABS and PETG melting temperatures are between 220 and 250 C (428 - 482 F). That being said, I will often leave my Hakko at my soldering iron temperature of 700F (371C). If the temperature is too high, the plastic will smoke. Lower the temperature if you see that happen. Higher temperatures will allow you to set the insert more quickly. Lower temperatures the melt will occur more slowly. Don't over press if it's not going in...simply raise your soldering iron temperature little by little until you get to a temperature that allows you to set them at your own pace. PLA melting temperature is around 200 C (392 F). I would think a starting soldering iron temperature for PLA might be about 500F. If you don't get any action there, keep raising the temperature 10-20 at a time until you do. Lower the temperature if it smokes.

**Q: (?) i'm the guy who asked if the tips would fit a hakko 936. i ordered them to try it and they work like a charm! thanks for you help virtjoule!**
A: Thanks for the info! These also work perfectly on my Aoyue 937 soldering station.

**Q: I have a weller wp-25. will these work with that model or is there another insert tip that will?**
A: We own a Weller WP-35 iron which I believe is similar to a WP-25, just 10 watts more powerful. From my research, they both use ST series tips. Our Hakko FX888D compatible tips will fit into the WP-35 barrel and over the heating element, but because the Weller ST series tips that iron is expecting are so much longer in the barrel, our tips are loose in the axial direction on this iron which is definitely not ideal when it comes to reliably being able to set an insert. We have no relation to the following company, nor is this an affiliate link, but we did do a bit of research to find a cheap iron with variable temperature, something most people find useful, that would fit our Hakko compatible tips. We ordered and tested this iron fit satisfactorily: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07S61WT16 Of course you get all sorts of other accessories with it that might take the sting off of buying a dedicated iron. Hope that answers the question and gives you some direction. Good luck on your projects.
