The display is a good size another plus is the radio remembers your choices even after being switched off at the mains. Only negative is the quick start guide which I found confusing. Best advice I can offer is to press the select button after making a choice and if possible go to the philips web site for better use instructions. After reading reviews about this one not being able to dim the backlight and some reviews that said you could, I went ahead and bought it anyway. I was glad I did! You can set that backlight to a low setting. Just keep your finger down on the settings button for 3 seconds and you'll be able to navigaite to the light setting. The alarm is easy to set up as well. Just make sure you read the quick start guide that comes with it. All in all this is a lovely sounding radio with alarm.
