This alarm magnet is so much better than I expected; it's very small, easy to install, can be very loud if you prefer. The open-door alarm on my new fridge is very quiet, only chimes once and the light on the panal is very faint. One of the doors does not close easily causing a major problem in our house. I put the magnet on the top of the door, out of sight and it works perfect. It chimes every time one of the doors opens, but the loud alarm is delayed for a few minutes and again after 1min, 2min, 3min. I tested it from all rooms and everyone in the house could hear it. The price is right, the alarm is great, install was simple. I believe we have found an excellent solution to a family problem.

Absolutely just exactly what I needed. This alarm is loud enough to be heard all through the house if the freezer door is left open. Just make sure to test placement before permanently adhering. I wanted mine to sound if the door was barely open, since it is unnoticeable. This has notified me the door was left ajaralready, saving me money and giving me peace of mind.

Bought 2 so my freezer and any or the 3 doors open too long will get loud alarm.. love it no more waster energy and potential breaking my 2000 frig had t0 get these cause kids wife always leaving door open heat from 35 to 74 huh a few bucks for these is godsend save me 2000 cause last fridge died cause of family mistakes $$$$$$$ love them onlu wish alarm would sound for like 30 secs straight vs 2 sec .. hope friggi make one 30 sec or 1 min loud noise cause family loud and distracted by multimedia. But love it freezer and fridge protected

Does what I expected. Fairly loud beep when door left open for a few minutes. I like it, wife thinks it’s annoying. The alarm is pretty loud and probably more suitable if fridge is in garage or basement. Easy to setup and operate.

My partner is bad at closing and shutting things, so I finally bought this when he left the fridge partly open all night. This was easy to install, and if you attach the main alarm part to one door and the magnet part to the other door, it can monitor both doors (unless both are left open the same amount). The magnet needs to be within about an inch of the alarm to prevent any alerts, which is nice since that means you don’t have to mount them super close together. It has multiple settings for volume and a little light that blinks when you open the fridge, which helps to track battery life. It is smaller than I expected (which I like), it comes with two sets of double sided mounting tape, and it looks good, seems to work fine - and most amazing of all, the instructions are well written in clear correct English, with helpful pictures!

Have two people in the household with ADHD. My old fridge had a built in door alarm that saved us many times. New fridge doesn't have that feature, so I purchased this. It works great. I've had it about 2 months and it has already saved our food at least once. I'm not sure how long the battery lasts, but I haven't encountered any issues. Cheap and effective

After experiencing a minor disaster when the garage freezer door was left ajar and everything was 20 degrees warmer due to the frost accumulation, I decided something had to be done so this won't happen again. Voila--this freezer door alarm. It is super easy to install using the supplied adhesive. It is also much smaller than I expected, but that turned out to be a good thing because I installed it on the front side of the freezer door (ours is a top freezer) instead of the top, so I can see it better and control it easier. I feel relieved knowing that if that door gets left open again, and we are home, we will hear a very loud siren coming from the garage and be able to fix the problem immediately. After a couple of minutes, it will beep, but I don't think we would hear that. After several minutes it will emit a loud siren which we would be able to hear. That's exactly what I wanted.

Our refrigerator had no alarm on it causing it to be left slightly open at times, and discovering it much later. This little alarm has been great because it gives a very faint reminder beep when the door is opened, and then a louder beep after a minute if the refrigerator door is accidentally left open. So glad I purchased this. Very reliable.

After yet another freezer-not-being-properly-closed-by-returning-offspring-after-a-nightout, we got this device. I had previously had a more expensive wireless temperature monitor for the same purpose, that was really designed for professional settings like labs etc. It had 2 sensors you just put in the freezer/fridge and then a receiver/alarm unit located within range. But I found it went off occasionally for random temp fluctuations not actually caused by the door being left open, and was then fiddly to reset. Anyway I made the mistake of thinking 'those days are over now the kids are older/more responsible....' - well, you know how that one ends. A week ago we lost another load of frozen food after an all-night door slightly ajar situation which caused the tempertaure to rise so much, we had to defrost the freezer completely and start it again (BTW top tip - last time this happened, we thought something had gone wrong as it simply wouldn't reach freeze temperatures again. Paid £250 for a Miele callout to be told 'defrost it completely, then turn it on again, and leave it for 12 hours'. So that's what we did this time, without paying for the advice - works perfectly). So now I've replaced my old temperature sensor with this distance monitor. So - as for installation - this is the tricky part, and of course it all depends on how your freezer is located and whether it's built in or not. So ours is built in and I decided the neatest solution would be to position the device on the underside of the door - see pic. The main unit went on fine - luckily there was a 4cm gap between the back edge of the door of the freezer, and the vertical panel between the door bottom and the floor. The sticky pad for the main unit worked fine also - very sticky and am confident it will stay on for a while, despite being at maximum risk (ie with gravity applying constant pressure and in an area exponse to damp/cold). That said, I only needed to apply it once - see below. The instructions were that kind of non-English, minimal type you get from, presumably, Far East manufacturers, but it's fairly easy to work out that the different volumes of alarm are activated by 1, 2, 3 or 4 presses of the 'set' button. The next bit was the hardest part. I wanted to position the smaller 'activator' unit so that even if the door was only slightly ajar, it would go off. So here's what I found: 1. The alarm triggering depends not only on how close the units are to each other in terms of the gap between them side-by-side, but also 'vertically'. So you can see from the pic how I ended up with the smaller unit moved towards the 'top' of the main unit. I found this to be the exact right spot for triggering even a slight gap (say, 1cm or less) of the door being ajar. This is crucial for us as it only takes this kind of gap, left open all night, for the freezer to get upset. 2. The sticky pad for the smaller unit stopped working after 3-4 efforts to get the positioning just right - presumably because I was sticking and unsticking it to a slightly greasy, cold, aluminium surface. Cleaning the surface didn't help, so I gave up on the pad. I took it off from the unit and instead improvised with insulating tape and UHU glue. I also marked the final location with a Sharpie, as you can see in the pic, for good measure, in case it gets knocked off. 3. My wife is very sensitive to noise, but we also need the alarm on the loudest setting, so we can hear it when we're in bed late at night, as that's when certain people seem to visit the freezer carelessly. So it will be interesting to see what happens if we are opening the freezer to load/unload and the louder alarm is triggered (think this is 2 or 3 minutes, but again neither the instructions or the page here is particularly clear on this point). However - I can confirm - it's very loud and you should be able to hear it anywhere. 4. Finally, just to note, to replace the batteries you apply a bit of pressure to the front of the main unit and push it 'upwards' (towards the logo end), and the cover should just slip off. I can do this even when its located under the door like this - not difficult. Hope that's all helpful! Will repost an update if it goes wrong/doesn't last long. 2026 update: Don’t know if anyone is still reading a 2021 review of a fridge alarm but suffice to say, 5 years later, I’ve just bought another one for our new house! Indispensable - even for brand new fridges with a supposed alarm system. Don’t know why but for some reason they just don’t seem to work if you leave the door slightly ajar. This one always does!

I have a habit of not closing the basement freezer door properly, which resulted in spoiled food more often than I want to admit. I first tried putting a magnetic thermometer by the door and setting a temperature alarm, but this has two drawbacks. First, the alarm won't sound until the temperature inside has already reached a dangerous point, and even worse... the alarm wasn't loud enough to hear even one floor up from the basement. This alarm solves both those issues. If you are careful about placing the alarm and the magnet it will detect of door gap of as little as 1/8". If the door is that close to closed the door seal magnet should pull it the rest of the way in. Even more important than that though is the volume of this alarm is LOUD! As soon as you open the door you hear a quiet "chirp" which repeats every 20 seconds or so for the first minute, then it starts to beep louder and longer for the next couple of minutes to remind you to close the door when you are done. If the door remains open past four minutes the full siren goes off and I wouldn't be surprised if the neighbours could hear it. If you need to door open longer than four minutes, say for defrosting, there is a small switch on the alarm portion to turn it off. You can choose several locations around the door to mount the alarm and magnet and it comes with adhesive shims to equalize the door and body surfaces if they aren't exactly aligned. The handle side of my freezer door is only about an inch from the wall so I chose to mount the alarm and magnet on top of the freezer and door instead of the side.
