I guess I am just a dummy, but how do you use this ink?

Well there are several ways I think. I use it for calligraphy and own a dip pen for it. I know it's also used for sumi-e paintings using a brush, and for that it's sometimes mixed with water. Do not try putting this ink in a fountain pen or a brush with an internal reservoir because it will clog them up.

Is this ink archival?

If you can find someone who can read the bottle, the info might be there 😁 If you want archival quality for calligraphy, use artist quality gouache, dilute it to the right strength, and add a few drops of gum arabic. Hope this helps!
