## Questions & Answers

**Q: Has anyone else's controller randomly froze up yet? When I used my turtle beaches it did it all the time.**
A: This was happening to me as well. I contacted Razer support and they provided a link to download the latest firmware update for the controller to resolve the issue. Since I can't find this link anywhere on the Razer website, I'm going to provide it here as well (requires Windows): http://dl.razerzone.com/drivers/Wildcat/win/Razer_Wildcat_FirmwareUpdater_v1.01.11(1.0.320.0).exeSo far this has prevented my controller from freezing again. Frustrating that (as of 2/6/16 - my purchase date) the controller does not come with this latest firmware. Hopefully Razer will rectify this soon.

**Q: On pc, can i map the extra buttons to keyboard keys? or can they only imitate the regular xbox buttons?**
A: I don't have a pc anymore but there was a program you could download and that I used with great success called Xpadder. It allows multiple buttons and complex set ups. It's fun, especially if you are trying to play with a controller against those mouse and keyboard elitists.

**Q: Do kontrol freeks work with it?**
A: Kontrolfreeks only fit if you force them on which ends up damaging the sticks. I found these to fit perfect & they really work well + you get a couple of spare ones...not that you'll need any.

**Q: Xan tbe dpad withstand Netherrealm induced rape over an extended period of time?**
A: You should never rape your controller, you should only engage in consensual activity.

    Great Choice!

*by A***N on Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2016*

I, like many others, were in line to pick up the Microsoft Elite Controller when it was announced. I had been waiting for a controller like that since the original Xbox. I realized that many third party peripheral manufacturers had similar controllers available, but the difference in the feel of the analog sticks from first party to third party always turned me off to the idea. Enter SCUF. I liked that the controllers were Microsoft controllers to begin with, but I didn't like the price or the paddle placement. The outside paddles are convenient, but the inner paddles are a slight pain to make regular use of. But, Microsoft wowed me with a controller that gave me everything I wanted: metal components, paddles, and programmability. But, then I tried it out. I must first say that I actually canceled my pre-order for the Elite. So, I had to test it out at my brother's home. He actually bought two. It was really nice! The customization is really the draw for this controller, But it's also one of the things that eventually turned me off about it. I realized that once I had the design I was comfortable using, I would never bother swapping out the components. In fact, it would likely adversely affect one's skill by switching things for each game. Also, the magnetic components are cool for a quick change, but as I said, that's not really a necessity since you'll probably just keep it in your personal configuration anyhow. The other issue with them is the parts fell off several times while I was using the controller; usually when I dropped it or set it down, but any child or pet in your home could walk off with any thumbstick or paddle; good luck finding them then. I also wasn't keen on having four paddles. I opted to just use two since I felt like I could still grip the controller. But, that left me still using a couple face buttons. Alas, it wasn't the perfect fit I was looking for after all. Then, by chance, I found the Razer Wildcat on Amazon. Could this be the answer to all my wishes? It looked solid enough. It only had two paddles (which are screwed on, thank goodness) and two extra cap buttons! Plus, with the new controller app on the xbox one, I can now change the sensitivity, etc. of my analog sticks, so the problem I had with third party controllers was a thing of the past. And, honestly, the Elite was impossible to find, so I thought I had nothing to lose except games, so I ordered it right away. Fast forward to now: I received my Wildcat a couple days ago and I must say, in a nutshell, I am well-pleased. I don't want to nerd out on you quite yet because I want the reader to know I have given the Wildcat its fair shake, but not overly dismissive of any faults. First off, it comes packaged with the other accessories in a nice, stiff canvas carrying case. The braided cable is just the right length for me to sit comfortably in my spot and have enough slack, but not too much. The break-away cable is great. I have needed it already. I don't usually play with corded controllers, so I was a little skeptic of this one. But, I found myself forgetting I was tethered to the Xbox. The cord has a large end with the micro-USB that snaps snugly into the molded top of the controller, giving it a very sturdy connection with no worry of bending those pesky Micro-USB ends, as with the Elite or normal controllers. So, those who like making sure they have every advantage will appreciate the fraction-of-a-second improvement in controller response time. I used my side USB port on the Xbox and have had no issues of disconnections or freezing, but if you have, it could simply be a Xbox issue with that USB port. I've had my share of those ports go bad. I first used the controller in the buff, with none of the extra grips. It felt fine in my hands, but, like other controllers, it felt small. I have big hands and that's a constant issue with controllers. I've read others say the controller feels cheap. I couldn't disagree more. The shape is an improvement over the basic controller shape. The thumbsticks ARE metal, contrary to other reviews, and they are slightly larger than standard analog stick caps. They feel smooth and solid, which is good since I can't change the sensitivity on the sticks in the Xbox app. : ( But, I can in each game. : ) The real kicker here, and puts this controller above the elite and others, is the button placement and feel. There is virtually NO travel when you click the face buttons, extra cap buttons, and the extra triggers (M1-4). When they said Hyperesponse, they are serious! Just a little click is all it takes, which is great! The triggers are placed just where your fingers naturally fall on the back of the controller, making them super convenient. I love the extra bumpers! With 4 paddles on the Elite's back side, it got confusing and I held the controller gingerly. Now I can squeeze it the way a man needs to! The bumpers I have set to the lesser used face buttons, so I can use them when I feel the need but they aren't in the way. Close enough to use, but not accidentally pressed. The hair trigger mode and trigger stops are a must! That hair trigger mode is only found on this controller, and it's awesome. You can also easily reprogram your M1-4 buttons on-the-fly with the control/mic pad along the bottom of the controller. There is a default setting and 2 custom profiles you can program the M1-4 buttons to. Now, to tackle those polarizing grips and thumbstick covers. Firstly, the thumbsticks: I love the covers after using them with and without. It's more grip and square inches for my fingers. I will leave them on. They don't seem cheap to me, but they aren't supposed to be any Kontrol Freaks, which I doubt will fit due to the larger pad size. Now the side grips: I like them and will use them forever. I have big hands and the extra size, though minimal, is welcome. They are made by 3M, so they aren't some cheap piece, like some people have said. They do take some care to apply, however, I got mine on as good as humanly possible. They look nice and even. I don't mind the bright green, but I would rather have both add-ons in a black, instead. To apply your grips evenly, you need patience and a little tape. Don't remove the backing right away; remove it piece by piece as you move around the handle. Use the tape to hold the grip in the correct spot on the front of the controller, taking care to line it all up and make sure it'll fit right. Begin on the side with the logo printed on it, so you can match the other side to it. Then, start on the back, and only remove that third of the backing to start. Work it flat and then remove the middle backing and do the same there as you work to the front and final piece. If you are careful and took the time to line it up, it should turn out nicely. If you are looking for a good, competitive controller and have decided the Elite needs a couple tweaks, then the Razer Wildcat is growling your name! I think both controllers would add to your game, but the Wildcat is made for FPS and not for everything under the sun like the Elite. Some call that the Elite's strength; I say it's a weakness. If you try to please everyone, you'll just end up disappointing yourself. Get a controller that was made with shooters in mind! The paddles, d-pad, etc. will not fall off and get lost under the couch or sucked up by the dog or vacuum. The buttons are super responsive. The paddles and buttons are perfectly placed. The controller is no more heavy than a standard controller. And, it is just as rugged and competitive as any other controller. That's why I say it's FIVE STARS!EDIT:I have been using the Wildcat for almost 2 weeks, now. And, I gotta say it is still awesome! Maybe better! Halo 5 has been tremendous with this controller! I can move, jump, strafe, and mantle all at once. The moves I can pull off because of this controller are well worth the $!I still see people complain about disconnects, but I've had no problem. It's most likely the USB port. Try switching to another one and being sure it's secure. Especially people who have received multiple controllers with the same problem. Odds are it's not the controller. It's the xbox/usb port.I recommend this controller to anyone. The learning curve isn't too steep and it's well worth it!

Poor Hardware - Locks Up - Could have been Great

*by M***N on Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2016*

Reviewing the Wildcat XBOX 1 Controller, hard to know where to start… Wait, I Know:CONS:- LOCKS UP: This controller “locks up” during gameplay and becomes totally non-responsive. The buttons and interface controller inside of the Wildcat lock up at random. It happened 4 times in the first (and only) evening I owned this controller. I am running for position, crouched down lining up a shot, or sidestepping with guns blazing and all of a sudden I have no control. None of the buttons worked, not even the big MS top center button. My character on screen just continues with the last movement command (no more shooting) as I watch him get pummeled by the opposition and/or and walk off a cliff. NOT FUN. I had to unplug the controller and reconnect to have it work again. By the end of the night I had the whole “jump up - unplug – reset” thing down so I survived the last two controller lock-ups. Who said you don’t get exercise playing video games?- Audio / Hardware: The audio still worked when the controller locked up, so we are seeing a definite hardware design deficiency where only half (the important “button” half) of the controller locks up.- Wired Only. I must agree that the wired aspect felt a little sharper and more exact than a wireless controller, but the cable is a bit of pain. MS Elite has both, something worth thinking about.- Cable: Too short if you have a 70” TV with the XB1 on the upper shelf… Sitting real close was a panoramic experience, but spotting movement in the peripheral area of the screen is a bit more difficult. Extending it with a hub could work.- Rubber Joystick Caps: OK, I admit I am a tense player, and after an hour the left joystick cap pad came off in game. They either do not stay put well, or I am too aggressive. Customer wins.. rubber caps too loose.- Self Installed Side Grip Pads: We get to install the side grip pads? All the pics I saw showed a tacky installation of the non-removable grip pads. I can see them slowly peeling back with use, and looking sloppy unless you have the patience of “to grab a fly with chopsticks” when you apply them. I skipped the installation and glad I did not waste the time.- Cheap Feel: The joysticks felt cheap and under built. The case did not feel substantial. Hard to put it into words, guess I was expecting more from a $150 controller.- Setup: Figured out the profiles and setup for the additional buttons eventually. Their instructions and setup interface could be better regarding these additional controls. Very poorly done.PROS:- Audio: Liked the audio interface setup, I mean, I really liked the setup.- Wired. Yup, it responds “better”. Worth hassling with the cable.- Extra Buttons: Good positioning and feel.- Controller Buttons: They used micro-switch tech, nice “click” mechanical feedback, joy to use.SUMMARY:- It LOCKS UP during gameplay, ‘nuff said.Games are hard enough without the controller taking the enemies side…I am not the only reviewer to point this out.If it did not “LOCK UP”, I probably would have kept it. Big “IF”.RECOMMENDATION:- Run, do not walk, away from this controller. I returned mine.- Do not buy this controller unless you like the extra exercise jumping up and resetting the controller mid-battle. If you do?? Then this controller is for you.
