Perfect neck knife
Perfect neck knife. Very lightweight yet useful knife. Placement of ring allows for actual pinkie or forefinger use unlike many versions which center the ring. The slim scales and jimping along the spine add lots of useful traction with minimal bulk. Secure-ex sheath with retention tab hold knife very secure, able to hang upside down in neck knife position with no fear of release, unlike others. Decent, not great but certainly not bad steel. Flat ground blade profile, doesn't really have a "flat" area directly above spine but was able to get a good clamp on my tormek jig on the flat stock area by the heel of blade. Lansky type sharpeners would prob work the same way. comes with ball chain lanyard. Great for tasks that would gum up your folder.

Exactly What I Was Looking For
I wanted a utility knife to mount to my LBV. I wear my knife upside down on the weak side. The knife needs to be strong, but not so large as to hog too much space on the vest. My current knife is an original Gerber Mk I in a custom kydex sheath, connected to the vest with a Malice Clip. The Gerber is a fighting knife, and is too rare and expensive to be using day to day. The SRK C is just about the same size, is sturdier, and useful for more tasks. The Secure-Ex sheath is meh. It has a rep for dulling the blade,, though I haven't tested this, and won't. It does not have the retention strength required for wearing the knife upside down. I will make my own kydex sheath and mount it with a Malice clip. The knife came sharp, but not razor sharp, which is just how I like it. Too sharp, and it dulls quickly with work. Too dull and you fight the knife in bushcrafty tasks. I wanted a knife that I don't need to coddle, and that's what I believe I got. Out of the box, it slices paper cleanly, and the SK-5 steel has a rep for being quite tough, though I haven't tested it in the field. The handle is very grippy, and I couldn't ask for more.. My only real complaint is the sheath, but I have yet to find a production sheath that I was happy with, so I didn't expect perfection. This is a survival/bushcraft/utility knife like it's cousins, the full sized SRKs. I have a couple of those, and have been very happy with them. Out of the box, the knife seems great, and the price is REALLY reasonable. I think I hit the jackpot with this one.

Super lightweight! Probably one of Cold Steel's most underrated knives!
I have a Mini Tac Bowie, and I tried using it as a neck knife, but it's really kind of heavy for that, so I got the Bird & Game and I love it! It's almost half the weight and it doesn't have the rough texturing! It does not come with a lanyard, but I had one from another knife. You could, of course, just make one out of paracord or something. It's light enough that I don't really even think about it throughout the day, but if I need it, it's there, and it's perfect for opening boxes and packages and other everyday tasks. If you want a great little knife that you can have with you everyday, but you don't want to use a pocket knife, this is a great option! I can see this being really useful for women who often have small pockets or none at all.

BEST OF THE SRK SERIES!
In my opinion, Cold Steel may well offer the best production-grade knives on the market today. Their SRK (Survival Rescue Knife) is no exception, which is why the Navy issues the SRK SK5 to all SEAL trainees. There are three variations of the SRK: SK5 (Japanese high carbon steel), San Mai (three layers of good VG10 steel), and 3V. This review is for the 3V version. I have owned the SK5 and San Mai versions, and they are excellent in their own right. The 3V model costs about twice that of the SK5 and roughly $35 more than the San Mai. At this point, the question is whether or not the 3V model is worth the additional cost. In my opinion, the 3V is absolutely well worth the extra money. It's the best of the SRK lineup. The main reason lies within the heart of the blade, the steel itself. 3V is a high-end steel with a stellar reputation for quality, durability, edge retention and strength. Another outstanding feature of the 3V version is that it has a full tang, whereas the SK5 and San Mai do not. I have never broken an SRK, but I do appreciate the fact that it is going to be more durable overall. The lines, angles and grinds of the 3V reflect amazing attention to detail, and the cutting edge is so sharp that it shaves hair from my arm with absolutely no effort whatsoever. It is scary sharp, and will cut you if you stare at it too long. Well, almost. Like the other two SRK models, the classic drop-point blade is about 5mm thick, but yet does not feel overly large, heavy or cumbersome. The Kraton handle material provides a very secure grip even when one's hands are wet, and it feels good. I know that some folks hate the sheath that CS supplies with their fixed blade knives. While I don't particularly care for them myself, I have found, over time, that they do what they are intended to do. They are just fine for a camper, hunter, backpacker, etc. If I were back in the military, I would absolutely feel comfortable with the 3V on my side, but would use a much better sheath, such as the Spec-Ops brand. Some reviewers have stated that the sheath rubs against the cutting edge of the knife, causing it to become dull. I have never found this to be the case. If you want to check yours, here's how. Using a black marker, color the cutting edge on both sides and then insert the knife into the sheath and withdraw it. Repeat this process several times. If the cutting edge is rubbing against the sheath, it will rub the black marker in the affected areas. The knife fits snugly into the sheath, and it is quite secure. It's not coming out until you make a conscious effort to draw it. What I don't like about the sheath is the nylon strap that connects the body of the sheath to one's belt. During the drawing process, the nylon strap allows the sheath to ride up a couple inches before the knife is removed. This does no harm, but definitely makes the drawing process slower and less efficient. The sheath itself can easily be attached to one's backpack or other such gear through several different processes. All things considered, the sheath is acceptable for all but military applications. The 3V is such an awesome knife that it's worth the expense of obtaining an aftermarket sheath should you so desire. To me, value is the sum of an item's quality, practicality, and price. Using this formula, I can say that the SRK 3V is simply amazing. I am definitely impressed. This knife is as nice as others costing hundreds more. I would prefer that it be American made instead of Taiwan, but theirs is not a communist country, so I can live with that. If it were US made, it would cost a LOT more and may not have the same quality. Don't let the Taiwan manufacture deceive you. Via Cold Steel, they produce quality blades on par with those of Japan and the United States. For its current approximate cost of $118, this is truly an amazing value and is well worth the additional funds.

Solid knife, sheath is “meh”.
Solid minimalist knife, and an improvement on the old bird-and-trout pattern. The scales epoxied to the tang do just enough to improve the “grip ability”, aided by the overall slightly larger size of the knife. The only problem that I experienced was the scales being slightly offset to the tang, but a touch of sandpaper fixed that in just a few minutes. It is comfortable in my jam-sized mitt when used for its intended purpose. They are not made of any sort of super steel, but the AUS-8 is definitely serviceable. Mine was razor sharp out of the box, and it has been easy to maintain that razor edge in the field. My biggest complaint has been the sheath. I wasn’t surprised by how bad it is since I read reviews, but I thought I’d at least be able to live with it. It rattles, is difficult to manipulate, and is not secure or reliable enough for neck carry. However, the knife itself is worth the price of admission. A simple kydex sheath would make this an amazing package, but at this price I’ll probably make my own. I might even buy some more as gifts!

Well made and includes a very customizable sheath, excellent for survival kits
Perfect size as a companion knife for bushcraft, camp chores or as a survival tool. Has plenty of strength and is certainly sharp out of the box. Comes well oiled for storage and transport. Grip is very tacky, love the positive grip when hands get sweaty. Would recommend this as a ideal survival and self defense knife. Unbelievable value, got mine on sale for under $30, bargain! Love Cold Steel products, makes me want the larger full sized SRK !!!! Super value priced product using awesome Japanese tool steel (SK-5). This feels like a serious military survival tool, will advise everyone to try it out and see what the fuss is all about. It's good, real good!!!! Design is perfected and balance in hand is excellent. It's a 5 star blade!!!! Very satisfied.

I really like this knife
Super light, very sharp, and the sheath has a lock to avoid it just falling out from being bumped. Good quality steel and the handle is grippy for how thin it is. It's clearly designed as a neck knife, but I'm going to attach it to my shoulder strap on my pack with paracord. A pocket/belt clip option on the sheath would be great, but is not included, if Cold Steel even offers one.

Indestructible and imposing, fantastic value at under $125
Wow. Amazing knife. Not much can be said about this that hasn’t already been said, but here are some observations: 1) It’s big, but not unwieldy. Not really useful as a carving or whittling knife. As a camp knife though, this thing is exemplary. Super thick and sturdy to easily splits small logs for a campfire, yet just thin enough for basic food prep, rope cutting, etc. And razor sharp! 2) The quality of materials and workmanship is fantastic. Knife handle and blade were perfect, not a blemish to be seen. Knife slides cleanly into the sheath with a nice swooshing sound; no rattle or wobble. Tight fit yet the blade edge does NOT scrape against the sheath as some have said. Maybe there was a bad batch and production has been cleaned up since then. As for the steel used, this is CPM 3V steel. Do a Google search and you’ll see just how great this stuff is; some say it’s the perfect knife steel with the only flaw being that it’s only marginally rust resistant as opposed to being stainless steel. 3) This knife is clearly a combat/survival oriented knife. As such it has an intimidating look and profile, so probably not the best idea to carry it around in a grocery store or while running errands unless you live in a remote wilderness area. In which case, carrying this knife will probably be enough to ward off grizzly bears and mountain lions without issue. So in summary, at $100-125 this an unbeatable value for a virtually indestructible knife that will probably excel at almost everything you want to do with it.
