I found this book one of the best for that, Things are stated clearly with consistent examples. There are some things I skip over because, quite frankly, in my 35 years of doing SQL I have never used those features I also present from the chapters a different order, but the book lets you do that easily. Murach is a great company with very nice people. Every time I have contacted them with questions, or to get some powerpoint slides to go along with the books, they have been super responsive and helpful. I use this in addition to my textbook for class. This is more the "learn how to code SQL". It's not very in-depth for the database side, but that's not what this book is about. I love this book, and find it a great reference book. It has almost everything I need. Easy to find things and did I mention all the examples? Yeah, that part is a total win. It doesn't use the adventureworks database, but I didn't find that a problem.
