I use it in my family room. Hey! You! What is so funny? Yeah, you, smiley face! I'm talking to you!I'm sick of paying the power company. They tell you to conserve. They tell you to use curly bulbs, filled with nasty Mercury. For $10 a pop, they'll save you money! No they won't. Why because the less electric we use, the higher they raise the rates! Why? Because the power companies are owned by investors and when you use less electric, you pay them less money, and when you pay them less money, they raise the rates!!! What? You didn't figure that out on your own? C'mere. I wanna slap ya!These little lights are bright! Don't let anyone fool you. Are they as bright as a 100 or 150 watt lamp? Heck no! But, if you put 3 of these babys in your family room like I did (one in front of each of my windows), they light the room up pretty nicely. One, will not do the trick, but three are something to be reckoned with. I hung them in front of the windows so I could run the power cord down behind the curtain, and sat the solar cell on the window sill.Yes, they are bright and glare-ish. To solve this, mount them close to the ceiling, and buy a piece of light dispersion material from the hardware store, that they sell to cover drop ceiling, florescent lights. Hang a small circular piece of this material just beneath the light. No more glare!!!Best of all, other than the initial cost, I don't have to use my electric lights, except for on occasion. The light fixture appeared well made for what it is: a lightweight plastic cup with a bank of L.E.D. bulbs (behind a clear plastic cover) in it. The mounting bracket for the outdoor solar panel is two pieces: a base plate you attach to the outdoor mounting surface, plus a short, round stem that pushes into (friction-fits) into the base while the other end slides into a key-way slot on the back of the solar panel. The solar panel cannot be adjusted to different angles to catch the sun efficiently...the mounting base is at a fixed angle, so you may need to install the base on a wedge-shaped piece to aim the solar panel correctly.Nothing keeps the solar panel securely attached to it's base pieces other than the friction-fit. I can envision a strong wind rattling the pieces apart...or lifting the solar panel off of it's mounting base.I will make it work for my purpose by rigging it to my existing adjustable bracket from my older, broken solar shed light.My original purchase of this unit arrived broken (on-off switch didn't work), so it was returned. A replacement unit was quickly sent to me. This solar light works much better than I expected!The bulbs illuminate a fairly wide area (not really a focused beam) and it's 20 LED bulbs make it very bright. The wire that connects the solar collector to the light is approximately 16 ft. long. The circular mounting plate (for hanging the light) can be positioned anywhere along this wire. The pull cord to turn the light on & off is approximately 24 inches long, and the switch itself feels/pulls about the same as a typical household pull cord light fixture...very strong & sturdy!The combination of wire length & pull cord length will allow me to hang the light from the very tall ceiling in my barn shaped shed and have it within arm's reach to grab and aim it around (like a flashlight) into the far corners of the shed.The light also has a tiny red colored bulb (next to the other bulbs) that is illuminated when there is power to the light. It will also help you find the light (and it's pull cord) in total darkness.The solar collector-light fixture connecting wire has a small round plug on one end about the same diameter of a pencil, not the typical L-shaped plug found on other solar shed lights (those other L-shaped plugs require a much larger hole to be drilled in the wall to fit the plug through when running the wire from the outdoors to indoors).I was so impressed with the quality & brightness of this light (despite it's poor mounting bracket design) that I recently ordered two more and they work fantastic too! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ First impressions *by S***Y on Reviewed in the United States on July 7, 2014* I just got this and will call it first impressions. If anything changes with use, I will post the changes.Pros:Solar cell and battery assembly appear well made and put out 3.8 VDC as required for the LED Lamp after several hours of charging.LED lamp is quite bright.Cons:Lamp assembly is cheaply made. LED light would not function even after the battery was charged. Took it apart and found that the pull on/off switch lever was bent so that it never contacted the switch button. Even after straightening the switch lever, the switch required so much force to actuate, that I was afraid I would pull the bracket out of the ceiling or pull the whole lamp assembly apart. It did function if I actuated the switch with my finger, but the level of force necessary to actuate it was way too high with the pull string.Since I took it apart, I won't be returning it, but will probably just hook up a separate external switch once I get the lamp positioned where I want it.This could be a much better product with changes to the switch and possibly a heftier cord.Update: After publishing my review, Microsolar sent me an entire new unit to replace the defective one. That's pretty outstanding customer service. The new unit arrived in 3 days and worked perfectly. Raised the rating from 2 to 4.
