It works if you follow the directions, especially as they apply to the sponge-ring-washer orientation
Follow the instructions, particularly those on which side of the large sponge-like washer to have facing up. What is intuitive (or might be intuitive) relative to what you think is right for that washer is wrong. Then pay attention how to insert this assembly relative to the triad of spurs that hold it in place, the force to push it fully down (more force than you might think compressing that sponge-washer), and finally the clocking (rotating) to where it holds in place. Those little triangle feet and the compressed sponge-washer hold this puppy in place pretty firmly if you get it right. Obviously for it to end up in the right position after rotation you have to shove it in so that when you clock (rotate) it, it locks pointed in the desired position. Done properly what seems at the beginning like a mickey mouse attachment is actually fairly simple and strong design. Do not coat the sponge-washer with anything. Hint: In my opinion depending on your water type (mineral/chemical content) this sponge is only good for one go-round, do not try to reuse it. The plastic housing could last a lifetime, the flapper may need replacement at some point, but absolutely replace the sponge anytime you have had to handle, move, or remove this assembly. The sponge-washer works because of it's compression when new, but it tends to hold that compressed position and for that reason re-use is ill-advised.

Perfect fit.
Not as difficult to install as I was led to believe. Shut off water supply, flush, vac or sponge remaining water, take a before photo, unhook flapper chain from flush arm, remove old flapper, remove old unit by pushing down and turning clockwise 40 degrees, clean surface, remove new gasket and apply olive oil liberally to all sides of new gasket, reinstall new gasket, clean hands for firm grip, install new unit by pushing down and turning counterclockwise about 40 degrees, install flapper and chain, turn on water supply, fill tank and test.

Fixed leak
Good, but seal was very thick. Wouldn’t go on until we placed 100lb weight on it for 24 hours then got the piece twisted in. Thankful it did fix our leak

Exactly what I needed
Needed to fix my mother in laws toilet, which had been running almsot continuously for weeks because my brother in law isn't handy.....neither is my husband! She has the k3434 Rosario toilet, can't find pieces in any old store (a reason I'll NEVER buy one of these fancy toilets for my own house). I didn't want to replace this whole assembly, her old flapper valve was all corroded and gross so I figured that's all we needed. I bought this whole thing In case I was wrong, since you can't just buy this anywhere. Well, flapper is all she needed, I popped the old one off, separated the new one and put it on the old fill tube and voila! Toilet works properly again. I'm keeping the new fill tube in case we need it later but hoping not. I also couldn't confirm whether this worked for the Rosario, so if that's your question you can know the flapper valve is definitely the same! I'm sire the rest is a match too. And I got a genuine Kohler part, too

You can easily get frustrated, trying to replace this part
It worked well with my toilet. However, removing the defective part and then placing the part was extremely difficult.. Think of the most difficult model of anything where you have one of those push down caps and you have to turn it at the same time to get it to open. This was easily 10 times harder plus you’re working in a confined space Again I had to consult YouTube to look at a couple of videos and try a couple of different solutions to make the installation go easier. Finally, after several hours, I was able to get the part in place.

This fits the k3434 toilet
I was unable to find the correct flapper for the Kohler3434. So had to buy the entire unit. Thank you to the poster who bought this entire unit to get the correct flapper. I tried the assortment on Amazon and none sealed properly. Unfortunately, my seal was about gone too. Fussy around in the tank caused it to leak. So it had to be replaced as well. It is a real pain in the old single-piece toilets. But it is possible. The two critical tips from other posters are 1) Remove the old adhesive. Which is not supposed to be there! 2) Coat the seal with vegetable oil. If not for this trick? I would be on to final tip 3. Still, it is difficult. Requires a great deal of even force. I scuffed my skin by applying enough pressure. 3) Another poster compressed the seal between two boards using claps. Frooze it hard. Then let it thaw, re-expand, and seal. Having worked with this material? I think this approach would work. I might have tried it first. Once I knew what a pain this was going to be. Not sure about buying a Kohler again. This part should be on Amazon for the K3434.

Leave Installation to the professionals!
May I start this review by saying we have Koehler toilets and sinks in all four of our bathrooms. One toilet had a constant leak that replacing the rubber flange did not fix. We really like this toilet and the color matches the sink so I decided to replace all the “guts” and start from scratch... Good idea until I tried to get the piece to turn and lock in place for 45 minutes until my fingers hurt. I finally had to call a plumber and he spent 20 minutes struggling before getting it connected. This is not the fault of this part. Koehler design is to blame. On-line many people complain it is a terrible design. The installation instructions I found on-line (nothing came with this part), says not to use any type of adhesive to connect this part to the toilet but when I removed the original part to replace it with this new one, the old part and the toilet where it was seated were covered with some type adhesive. This is how it came from the factory.. I had to remove a lot of adhesive from the toilet to be able to get a smooth seal for this new part. This is a 25 year old toilet. I trust new Koehler toilets do not have this design problem. It cost me $175 to pay a plumber to install it. So understand, if you need to replace this part on an older Koehler toilet, expect to pay a plumber to install it.

Flush valve kit review and Prk
I thought I could install this myself but I had to get my brother-in-law to come over and do it because I was not strong enough. You have to push really hard down on the gasket (step 6) in the provided instructions (make sure the tapered edge of the gasket is facing the bottom (step 4), and I did not have the strength to do this. I am a 62 year old women. Another ‘pro’ tip— Kohler makes two flush value kits. K 83664 is for 2 inch gasket opening. There is another kit # for a 2.5 inch gasket opening. I learned the hard way and bought the larger kit the first time. So I had to reorder and buy the correct kit. Now where on the Kohler flush valve kit webpage does it make this distinction. You may have to pull out your flush valve, turn it over and measure the bottom because the gasket and the 3 pronged teeth have to be secure on the ceramic opening. I also used my old flapper with the new kit because the seal fit better and stopped the teeny, tiny trickle of water I was hearing after the water tank was filled with water. I would have rated this a 5 star, but because I could do this replacement myself and the kit debacle, that is why is gave it 3 stars.

Perfectly fit my Kohler Rosario one piece toilet
Part was exactly as ordered, arrived as promised. Perfectly fit my Kohler Rosario toilet. Installing the part was difficult because the replacement gasket is very thick and needs to be compressed to half its size to properly install. I resorted to what I found on the internet; soak with water, put a small board on each side of it, clamp it down with 2 clamps so it is half the size; freeze it for four hours; take clamps off and it will install easily with it being compressed from the freezing. Half an hour later it thaws out and seals perfectly.

in my opinion the flapper should be made of a softer material for better seal.
Price was OK, but it leaks a little, in my opinion the flapper should be made of a softer material for better seal.
