Lacie is the premium brand of Seagate technology. The cosmetics are nice but the internals are more or less universal. The external drive market is a minefield and you can be lucky and get a drive that never faulters or otherwise. Obviously, you need to be able to rely on it. If it was new, you should have a year guarantee, so you may get a repair, exchange or money back. Write to the seller. The only make of external drive that has never let mo down in 20 years or more is WD (Western Digital). Whilst they have a perfect track record with me, it doesn't mean they are necessarily perfect. I have just connected my drive to a MacBook Pro and I can move it about, flexing the cable, without any disconnects.
