It's essentially the same product as Prime just in dry powdered form and more concentrated so you save money in the long run. This product should last me years even with weekly water changes. I have a 30 gallon tank so whenever I do a water change I usually siphon out about 15% of my water. I then put the dose of Safe into my tank as my bucket isn't very large. If you are changing water in a larger tank, you can also treat each individual bucket as you want but I find it easier to just dose the entire tank and then start adding in the new water after making sure it is the same temperature as the water in my tank. This is especially true if you are using a siphon that hooks up to your sink or hose for quick water changes. I follow the instructions from Seachem's website: Directions for all other sizes (this is different if you buy the 50g or 100g sizes!) Use 1.25 g (1/4 tsp.) for every 1,250 L (300 gallons) as needed to reduce chlorine and chloramine or use 1.25 g (1/4 tsp.) for every 300 L (75 gallons) for ammonia. Since my tank is only 30 gallons I use (1/10) of that dose to treat the entire tank. That ends up being 1/40 of a teaspoon so I had to buy some smaller measuring spoons. I use 1/32 of a teaspoon and have seen no ill effects with using this slightly higher dose as you would be using more for ammonia anyways. I've been using Prime for years and now been using Safe for over a month and have had no issues with my fish and chlorine and they seem very happy and healthy. You can also double or triple this dose in an emergency if you and need to quickly detoxify nitrites and nitrates.
