NEW Combo BLUWAVS CD and FLAC FILE Review: Phenomenal! - Another wonderful no doubt album! This Cd got me through my teen years and each song r minds me of precious memories from my youth! Review: Gwen sings music that matters!! - This is groovy. If you like Tragic K9ngdom which had like 4 radio singles hits on it in the 1990s when radio was still relevant, you'll like it. Much more upbeat positive lyrics and such. Another rare chance to hear Gwen Stefani sing non-dance pop music; actually rock and socially conscious like with her bit of collaborafion with Sublime. If you like her voice, buy it.

Underrated!
No Doubt's first album is very underrated! I love this album so much! The upbeat ska sounds just flow and are so happy! Probably one of my favorite ND albums!

Would've Loved to See this No Doubt Live
This is a really good debut album! Definitely more of a third wave Ska band, kind of like Madness but female-led and with more horns and less vocal harmonies. It would have been interesting to have seen this version of No Doubt in concert, a small venue like a club or theater. They seem to be having a lot of fun. Like a lot of people in 1992, southern California Ska was not high on my list while I was being bombarded by grunge and nursing a hangover from 1980's new wave. Shame. I read a review of Tragic Kingdom that said something about Gwen being cured of her "vibrato addiction" with that album. On this album, she does kind of have a warble to her voice, not really annoying but it's definitely there. She's a bit less refined than now, but still quite powerful and energetic and just fun to listen to. I think a bit more fun than their later material like Push and Shove. Tony Kanal's bass playing is particularly interesting, and Adrian's drums are quite good. And of course the horns. Lots of horns. Audio-wise this is competently-recorded but is kind of flat sounding. Definitely a lot less bass than later No Doubt albums. Your subwoofer will fall asleep. There is a booklet with lyrics and several pictures of the band. They look so young! Overall I'm glad I purchased this one, let it repeat several times upon first hearing it, and was kind of blown away by how much I enjoyed this much-maligned debut album of No Doubt.

When the eponymous debut album of No Doubt came out in 1992, it was a resounding flop due to its sound being most unlike that of the grunge rock bands so popular at the time. It nearly put a stopper in No Doubt's career in spite of their enormous popularity in their native California. This is a bizarre story considering the strong music found herein. ND, as I shall call the album henceforth just for convenience, is a fresh, gripping and catchy listen from beginning to end. Its sound is mostly that of ska and rock, and sonic dimensions inbetween these. One of the tracks even sounds like one of the first Sonic the Hedgehog games. Only one single was actually released from the album; "Trapped in a Box". A good song, but ND has far more gems. "Let's Get Back" is the aforementioned Sonic-sounding song I mentioned, a catchy way to kick things off after the equally catchy, but instrumental, opening track "BND". ND has got catchy and gripping songs like "Ache", "Get on the Ball" and "Brand New Day", as well as slower and moving songs like "Sometimes". My favourite track is "Sad for Me", a simple yet haunting song only featuring piano and clarinet (alongside the creative and strong vocals of Gwen Stefani, of course). There are only two dud tracks, actually, and fortunately they are performed in succession; you would be hard-pressed to find more novelty-sounding songs than "Polina" and "A Little Something Refreshing". Out with them, I say. The rest of the tracks are excellent. The overall sound of ND isn't all that different from, say, Tragic Kingdom. Sure, the difference is tangible, but you can definitely hear that this is the same band, making the flop even harder to understand. I am glad to have taken a chance with ND, for it is an excellent album, fresh and lively. This belongs in every No Doubt fan's library, and those looking for good easy music would do well to give it a chance as well.

Ho comprato questo CD per curiosità, per il prezzo basso, per la quasi assenza di compressione dinamica (sono fissato) ma lo sto ascoltando veramente tanto, consigliato!
