Someone who works with his hands, has failed at things and figured them out, that's the sort of person to put these up without a fail. I've copied another customer's instructions and pasted them below, but I would add this, clean the surface thoroughly, rinse it and make sure it is dry before installation. As you're putting it up and tightening it, be sure it is oriented in a level fashion. The installation in the pic is on an acrylic wall material. Anything similar, plus glazed and without a bumpy surface tile, or glass will work fine. Think out carefully the placement as I'm not sure how easy it is to remove if you get it wrong. If the sticky pad gets dirty or dusty before installation it will be ruined and you'll need a replacement which I believe is available separately. After affixing the cover and hook to the suction cup be sure to tighten it as hard as you can. Now here is the VERY important part: after step two do NOT use the hooks right away. Wait for one hour and then re-tighten the the knob. You will be surprised at just how much tighter you can make it after that one hour wait. Finally, be sure the surface is smooth. Also, the diameter of the rod better be small enough to fit the hook's openings. **Q: Does it work on painted doors?** A: They stick extremely well on any smooth surface as long as you follow the directions. If the painted surface is smooth they should work. **Q: How far out does the knob protrude & how far apart are the hooks?** A: The knob protrudes about 1 1/2 inches. The hooks are about 2 1/4 inches apart. The hooks protrude about 2 1/4 inches. This is the second item for my shower that we bought of this brand name. I highly recommend it. Our shower tiles have a slight texture to them, these suction cups hold on super tight and secure. **Q: One of mine fell off after a year. Instructions say to clean suction cup before reaffixing. What is best type of cleaning product on sticky rubber?** A: For the rubber use dish washing liquid on a small brush but clean both sides of the sucker so it maintains its flexibility & therefore it's suction. And clean the surface with rubbing alcohol. Let both dry thoroughly before re-applying.
