Always like Crying Freeman and this German Steelbook is awesome because I have the French Crying Freeman Steelbook but was Region B only (no problem for me because I have a region free Blu ray Player) and the German one is Region free and has all the extra features mostly in English were the French one were in French with little English subtitles. Picture and Sound Quality is same like the French Blu ray which was the best any way.

Yo Hinomura (Marc Dacascos), auch bekannt als "Freeman", ist ein Auftragskiller im Dienste der Organisation "Sons of the Dragon". Eines Tages wird er von der Malerin Emu O'Hara (Julie Condra) in San Francisco dabei beobachtet, wie Yo einen Yakuza und dessen Leibwächter tötet. Yo bekommt mit, dass er beobachtet wurde, und stellt sich Emu vor, die bald darauf nach Vancouver reist. Dies ist auch Yos nächstes Ziel, denn dort will er den Yakuza-Boss Shido Shimazaki (Makoto Iwamatsu) um die Ecke bringen. Dieser weiß davon und will mit der Polizei zusammenarbeiten, er nennt zudem Emu als Zeugin, die beobachtet hat, wie sein Sohn in San Francisco erschossen wurde. Die "Sons of the Dragon" verlangen von Yo, dass er Emu tötet. Er weigert sich jedoch, da er, wie sollte es anders sein, sich in Emu verliebt hat. Daraufhin trachten nicht nur die Yakuza, sondern auch die "Sons of the Dragon" nach Yos Leben.Crying Freeman aus dem Jahr 1995 ist der erste Spielfilm des französischen Regisseurs Christophe Gans, der Film basiert auf dem ebenfalls Crying Freeman betitelten Manga von Kazuo Koike und Ryōichi Ikegami. Gans vermischt hier Fernöstliches mit Westlichem, indem er zahlreiche Figuren der Vorlage und die Handlung auf den amerikanischen Kontinent verlagert (erst im späteren Filmverlauf gibt's einen Abstecher nach Japan). Die Story ist insgesamt eher dünn, dafür wird man mit einer stilvollen Inszenierung und ordentlicher Action in John-Woo-Manier entschädigt. Mich hat Crying Freeman nicht unbedingt vom Hocker gerissen, aber solide Actionkost (mit dezentem Drama-Einschlag) bietet der Film allemal - natürlich kann man davon auch begeisterter sein als ich. Übringens war Crying Freeman von 2007 bis Anfang 2018 in Deutschland indiziert - warum auch immer, denn als übermäßig hart empfinde ich den Film nicht. Die FSK anscheinend auch nicht mehr, denn die hat ihn nun ungeschnitten ab 16 Jahren freigegeben. Schon merkwürdig, das alles.
