I have used the generic unencrypted readers on some units, and the H.I.D. Brand card readers with encryption on others. Neither gave me any problems during set up. I did have one unit that lost the ability to connect with the software computer, but after simply reinstalling the program I haven't had a problem since. I have noticed Amazon is now selling an identical unit marked with the brand MENGQI.
