Resident Evil On The Go - Been waiting for this game since the GBA announcement.

*by S***S on Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2010*

I've been waiting for this game since the GBA announcement, which got cancelled, then made into RE: Gaiden. Now, finally a version on a portable that does the game justice. This game is a port of the playstation game, (as oppose to Gamecube Remake.)The story is about bizarre murders of people being eaten that have been happening on the outskirts of Raccoon City and the police S.T.A.R.S Bravo team has been sent in to investigate and stop the murderers, but the communication with Bravo team has been lost during the investigation. This is where the 2 main playable characters (Chris and Jill), Alpha team, come in. They go to search and rescue Bravo team only to be chased into a mansion by zombie dogs. You can play the classic playstation game or the Rebirth mode, a mode that has rearranged things and has more monsters that make it harder; this is a mode for the veteran players of this game. This mode also uses some of the DS's features such as the touch pad to solve puzzles and slash at zombies with the knife, and even the 2nd screen has the map always being displayed. This game even has a multplayer mode. The characters control like tanks; many people hate this but I have no problems with the tank controls. [Tell me how can you do a fixed-camera game without tank controls, RE2 for the N64 lets you control relative to the camera oppose to the character, and believe me, the game is unplayable with those controls, but I digress.] This has to be the most ease-of-use controls for the classic pre-RE4 games. It lets you tactically reload; out of the item menu. It lets use the knife like in RE4 with the left shoulder button, this I really like because now the knife doesn't take up precious item space.Graphics are quite good, they look like an improved version of the Playstation's graphics. Also, impressive is it includes the FMV cutscenes. In conclusion, I can never get bored with these games; can be beaten in 1 sitting, but multiple endings and scenarios and just the atmosphere keep you coming back. This game is the best version gameplay-wise, gamecube for the graphics. The only down side, in which you'd get a different version, is that it's on a small screen as oppose to big screen, but that's the biggest advantage of the game, Resident Evil on the go.

Gotta love it if your a hardcore RE fan!

I love this game, I was 16 years old when I played the original when it debuted and it was always a favorite of mine. You get to shoot zombies and monsters so you've got your action covered, but then you also have to use your head to figure out how to get to the next step and strategize how to most effectively use your ammo and health items. Finding this reformatted for the DS while shopping for my son is what got me back into video games! I love this game so much that I finally got my own DS (the new aqua blue 3DS) and my own card so my 12 year old (who also loves this game and replays it even though he's beaten it many times) and I can play the multiplayer versions which we haven't tried yet.**Edited to add that we have since tried the multicard version and found it to be a lot of fun, especially if you like to 'trash talk' each other in the versus mode, 'I sooo could finish this section faster than you...' The co-op mode was fun too, but is probably best suited for playing in the same room together (which will usually be the case as theres not alot of online RE:DS-ers) because in many scenarios you both need to acquire certain items and some of them don't 'appear' until your team mate takes the other. So it was helpful for us to be playing within yelling distance so we could collaborate on which rooms to check for certain items, or yell for help if we ran out of ammo. During game play the only thing your privy to is your team mates location on the map, and they appear as a 'star' when in the same room as you. So you have no idea if your partner or yourself missed anything before the time runs out. Also, my son loves playing this part because he gets to be Wesker, lol. Many times I have seen an 'old school' game that I've loved and found it to be tweaked or nothing like the original. You get the best of everything here. You get the original version which is just like the PS1 only on a smaller screen, plus you get the slightly remade version with a few more puzzles and a new 'slash and stab' section upon entering certain rooms which utilizes the touch screen on the DS. For those that played and loved the original this is a must have. For those who came into the series later you will probably not be impressed by the graphics, controls, and cutscenes, but 'back in the day' they were pretty good. Though it is fun to master the controls and be able to run smoothly around obstacles then hand it to a novice and watch them get stuck on the scenery ;) I would love for them to also put RE2 and the other original versions on the DS so I could play more of the series on the go. But for now I am keeping myself occupied playing this version until the new Mercenaries comes out this summer ;)
