Review: Fixed my stiff shifter problem. - This Dorman transmission range sensor fixed the problems I was having with my 2007 Ford Ranger. My shifter was getting very stiff and sometimes didn’t seem to click into each detent. Sometimes it was difficult to put into park. I tried removing the old sensor and ended up having to break the unit off. The steel shift shaft coming out of the transmission had rusted inside the white plastic ring causing it to swell and wear on the sensors black plastic housing. This is what was causing the shifter to be stiff. After I cut the white plastic ring off the shift shaft I used a wire wheel on a drill to clean up the rust. Prior to doing this I couldn’t even get the new sensor on. Afterwards the sensor slid right on. Once bolted on and everything was hooked up the truck was shifting like new. Real easy to install.
