This is a lengthy topic on the how to of 'leveling out songs'... but yes, in a general sense if you have your compressor set correctly you can achieve this. Mind you, when you use a compressor for this purpose you will lose the dynamic quality of the musIc somewhat. Ie: you will 'squash' the music. The combination of your gain ratio and threshold will be the two ways to accomplish this. **Q: Can i use this unit in music mastering ?** A: You could use this as a stereo compressor to maximize the gain for any stereo tracks you may need to make louder. Gave that to a friend and got the DBX 1066. AMAZING unit! I do a live syndicated radio show (Freedom Feens), and my co-hosts are remote, in different states, and coming through to me via Skype (!). I run my mic through channel 1, and the hosts through Channel 2. Sound is beefy, clear, never distorted and without noise.
