I knew I wanted something eco friendly and discovered these. They are initially hard but as soon as they are submerged in water they soften up and are brilliant at cleaning the dishes. The first set of dishes were covered in tomato soup, my old sponges would stain red after doing this. But these sponges clean up the dishes and the sponges are clean after use too. They last such a long time, I bought them in May and 5 weeks later I am just throwing away my first one. It doesn't smell and I have washed it twice since, and has only just developed holes. Someone mentioned you can't use these to wipe tables. Yes you can. I have a 3 year old so am always wiping up spills, these are brilliant at this. Although they are more expensive than those plastic ones, these will last more than 6 months and are biodegradable so are definitely worth the price. Can't find a single flaw. Where you can use a plastic sponge scourer to wipe up a quick spill, they won't do the same job. But they asre as good as the plastic sponges in every other way (except price of course - I can get 10 plastic sponge scourers for £1 in my area.) And they are so much better for the planet.
