Think about how you want to keep it clean when you order
I bought this based on all the helpful reviews. It's fantastic. Since hopefully we are not going to be repeat buyers, a couple of things that I haven't see commented upon a) SIZE: The sizing chart is in the pictures. Be careful at the size boundaries, I'm a 13EEE and went 'safe' with the XL (13+), which was huge. I bought another Large (which is 11-13) and that was fine. Note that both worked as the straps and pneumatics tighten up the XL, but it is bigger and heavier than what I needed. b) CLEANING: You're going to wear this outside and inside (and depending on doc's orders, sleep with it on). It will get dirty. If you care (we don't wear shoes inside our house, so having an outdoor boot in my bed freaks me) you need a strategy: 1) You can wear it outside, then cover it with a clean cover inside. Aircast sells a 'hygenic cover' on Amazon. It gets a bunch of negative reviews because dummies use it the wrong way "I walked outside for 2 miles and it wore through" "i spent two hours cleaning my garage with it on". The cover is for inside. 2) You can clean it. My friend swore by keeping a container of lysol wipes at the door and just wiping it down. 3) You could cover the cast when going outside. I'm not going to recommend this strategy. You'll likely defeat the non-skid sole and put yourself at risk of a fall. You're going to wear through a fabric cover quickly, something more substantial will simply increase the height mismatch with your other foot. Or you can get two, like me. I wear the XL indoors and L outdoors. It's not as crazy as it sounds, I generally only go out once (to work) and I need to take the cast off to change out of my dress pants anyways. c) Wet weather - I bought a cover from myRecovery, but haven't used it yet. Note this covers the upper of the boot and leaves the non-slip sole exposed. (which is what you want for outside). d) Wear - I wear a sock inside. I bought a few of the aircast liner socks, they are fine, longer than what is needed for the Aircast SP and they seem to pick up a smell easier than a normal cotton sock. I also tuck my pant leg into the top of the boot. It all works easily.

Great boot, I may cancel my doctor’s appointment!
I have plantar fasciitis that became so chronic, it was hurting nearly 24 hours a day and it was excruciating. I can’t get in to see the doctor for a month so I took matters into my own hands, read reviews and decided on this one. I ordered the short in a medium, I wear a size 10, my ankles and calves are probably a fairly typical build, I’m tall and active and the medium fits me well. As you can see from my photo, my toes are right up to the top but do not hang out. At first, I was surprised that this insole is so flat and not very padded but then I realized, how could they? The boot is meant to be worn on either foot. So I put in my own insole and it works great. I also like the fact that you can customize the fit with the air pump! Works fine for me. I’m back to walking my dog, I still am limiting myself to 1 1/2 to 2 miles a day for now but we go on dirt trails. It can be a bit clumsy over the river rocks but you just have to watch and be aware, your foot doesn’t give you much feedback for balance due to the stiff plastic so that’s to be expected. Some people have complained about the weight but I wanted something that would be durable so this works great for me. Also, the “squeaking” that some people complain about is due to the Velcro rubbing on the upper part of the boot where it is meant to hold the back and front together. Some suggested turning the plastic upside down so the toe end actually goes against your shin. It’s really not intended to fit that way. Simple answer, take off one of the pieces of Velcro on each side. The strap holds it in place! I’m too busy to be bothered by the noise. I can see where If you worked in a quiet office, it would be obnoxious every time you walked around. After only 3 days wearing this boot, I am amazed at how well my foot is doing! I’m also stretching and wearing KTtape on my arch to support my instep. I’m doing all I can to get rid of this pain and if it continues at this rate, I’m canceling my doctor’s appointment!

High quality CAM - was my best boot buddy for 10 weeks!
First time in a CAM boot, and even though I don’t have any benchmark for comparison, I think this product did a great job. This boot was my constant companion for 2+ months, so I got to know it pretty well. It felt like decent quality materials and construction and held up surprisingly well to the amount of use (and abuse) over time. At about the 6-week mark, the Velcro straps were starting to wear on the liner, but I took the boot on and off multiple times daily, and sometimes didn’t use the plastic top piece, so I think that’s a natural outcome. Used for a total of 10 weeks, and if I had gone any longer than that, I would have ordered a replacement liner just for comfort’s sake. The boot itself had no issues, no parts failed, no straps broke, and there were days when I basically threw it across the room I was so sick of it! I did end up using an orthotic insert with the boot, which increased comfort (especially helpful if you have high arches and your doc gives you the OK). Having small feet and small build, I noticed that it was at times difficult to get a comfortable fit around my upper foot and ankle, but given the nature of my injuries (foot and ankle), I’m not sure I’d blame that on the boot. The combo of pneumatic system and Velcro straps helped a lot with adjusting the fit — just be sure you understand how the pump tool works. It has two ends (one for inflate and one for deflate) — always deflate before removing the boot and inflate once your foot is secured inside. Once I got the hang of this, it worked like a charm to secure the boot and combat any slipping in the fit. It’s nice that the bottom is designed with a slight curve which made walking a bit easier. But I have to recommend using a shoe lift on the other foot or risk injury from uneven walking over a period of time (yes, that happened to me). The other note is that depending on your injury, you might consider getting the taller version. In hindsight, I think that may have been a more comfortable choice for me and eased pressure/tension in my ankle during recovery — be sure to talk with your doc about the two options (I didn’t until after I got this boot, and while it was fine, it might have been better). Also, definitely get a weatherproof cover if you’re going outside (even walking on wet surfaces, grass, whatever), as water gets right in that open toe space no matter how hard you try to avoid it. Overall, I am quite pleased with the purchase and impressed with the general quality of the product. I will definitely keep it as I could use it again (though hoping I won’t have to!) with a new liner. Knowing there’s a lot of crap out there on the market, I would go straight to this brand again and/or would recommend to others.

Comfortable and really stabilizes your foot
I really hate to admit but this is my second boot. Not that I enjoy wearing it, the first time I the Dr. recommend this boot for broken toes. Sounds funny broken toes not much you can do about that but since it was multiple breaks and there was no way in the world a shoe was going on my foot I followed the Dr. advise. So second time, broken foot, its on my foot now. Since this boot becomes your friend and buddy for about 6 weeks plus it does put up with a lot. My first boot just wore out, I wore it the first part of this injury but the cushion and support just was not the same and it became uncomfortable. I ordered a new one (exact same boot) and is like heaven on my foot compared to the old worn out one. The boot is very easy to wear, it has a fabric material that wraps over your foot and the top plastic piece goes over that. The velcro straps hold everything tight and snug and there is two air cushions that are located right by the ankle. A device is provided with the boot to inflate those while wearing the boot for added comfort and protection. While the boot is a bit heavy feeling it really does not bother me as it is there for the healing, support and protection of a injury, a cast would be heavy as well and not so much freedom as a boot. The velcro can at times make noise, my kids laugh as I can not sneak up on them, the boot gives me away every time. Once again it doesn't bother me. I do wash the bottom of the boot with a paper towel after going out as our home is a shoes off home. It cleans up every easy.

Mobility Saver
After I rolled my ankle tripping while going down some stairs, I was on crutches and a kneewalker for a couple weeks before getting the Aircast SP. There were a few times with the kneewalker that I thought I would be going face-first into the ground. The steering system on those is similar to that no longer allowed on children's wagons because - oh, right - it's just too dangerous. Yet we still have it on a mobility device. Occasionally, you have to move around in ways that the kneewalker and crutches don't allow, and these occasional movements were enough to re-injure my ankle twice in the three weeks I was using them. One time, I managed to re-roll the ankle even with the brace my doctor gave me. Another time, I was going down the stairs out of my apartment and hit the heel/ankle just right that, in its weakend, injured state, it bent too far. This was a bad situation, so I purchased the Aircast as soon as I was able to put my full weight on the ankle. Wow! What an amazing, life-changing difference. Thanks to the Aircast, I am able to walk again. I don't have to ask other people to carry stuff around for me while I worry about getting myself around the room without performing a faceplant into the ground because the floor was a bit uneven and catches a wheel or crutch foot. I am able to walk confidently knowing that if I take a bad step, my foot has some protection before I cause further injury to it. Thanks to the air ballasts, I am able to keep compression on my ankle when necessary, and give that joint the support it needs when it needs it. Before the Aircast SP, I was not leaving my apartment any more than I had to. Now, I've been going downtown to resume the work that I do - creating photo, video and written content for the websites I help manage. Sometimes, that can mean a lot of walking. With my Aircast, that's a lot of walking without injuring my foot. After my X-Rays, my doctor told me in no uncertain terms to treat my sprain like a break. However, they were very good with me using an Aircast. I don't know where I would be without mine. I take that back, I do know. I'd still be stuck at home wearing an inferior brace.

Mixed Feelings . . .
I have mixed feelings about product. I gave it 3 Stars simply because I ended up using it without attaching the outer frame in order to have a lighter-weight boot when propping my foot up at night while reading/watching TV. The majority of the time I wear my heavier but more comfortable boot from orthopedist. My positive and negative opinions of Aircast Boot are given below: Pro: -Great futuristic look -Heel is well cushioned with gel insert -Excellent height, comfortable around leg Con: -Cut-outs and Air packet on outer edge hit exactly where my 5th metatarsal fracture is. I removed the air packet on that side and then used a screw driver to pull the cut-out in the plastic frame outward - helped a lot. Boot design is bad for my type fracture. -Runs short. Sizing chart for my 7N foot indicates I would need a Small. However, I ordered a Medium, thanks to other Buyers alerting about the sizing issue. The Medium length is fine, and I wear 2 socks for width. -Quality is not nearly as good as the boot I got from medical office. Lining started separating after 3 days of light wear. -Boot has only one strap across foot area. NOTE: Someone recently asked where the Boot was made . . . I looked all over mine, inside and out, but could not find the country of origin. However, Aircast is a division of DJO Global, which is headquartered in Vista CA. Other locations are St Paul MN, Austin TX, Plainfield IN, and Tijuana Mexico. The website (djoglobal.com) states that they use global suppliers. Their website has a section for customer questions, so you may be able to find out more info on exactly where the boots are made.

BEWARE OF SIZING and DESIGN FLAWS!!!! OUCH!!!
This boot runs very small. I wear a 6.5 and I ordered the Small which should fit sizes 5-8 but it does not fit comfortably it is TOO SMALL. I have a Jones fracture and I needed to wear a boot for 6-8+ weeks and my doc recommended this brand (they sell a version of them in their office) and I decided to order it online to save money. I have tried every way to wear it but the pump device that blows up the little plastic pads inside sits RIGHT on my fracture and it does not matter if the green thing is blown all the way up, the pressure of just standing on my foot presses the pad out on either side and the pump device portion isn't flush with the boot so it ends up sitting directly on my injury. :'( I am not overweight so that is not the issue. I wanted to love this boot and I DO like that it has a rubberized bottom to give it good grip to keep the injured person from slipping down! It is such a shame that this one didn't work because I really need to wear a boot but since they won't take back the boot to exchange it for the right size, I will have to go back to the other boot with more plastic bottom, but at least it is padded like crazy so no hard plastic pieces press against my injury. The pictures I am attaching will show my injury (Jones fracture) and the circular area I drew in red is where ALL of my pain is from my injury but it is also right where the hard plastic pump mechanism sits directly on my foot. I have only worn this boot ONE TIME and when I got in the car to come home (I am a full-time nursing student and I walk around a lot) I could not wait to take off this boot and my foot had re-swollen to the size it was the night I got the original injury and it was blue again from bruising. I had to elevated and ice it again all evening which I had not had to do for nearly 5 weeks (since original injury). I cannot recommend this boot at all. The sizing was totally off as well so beware of that.

Seems Like A Well Designed and Quality Product
I just received my short aircast boot walker sized medium and I am relieved to find the sizing is good. I wear a women's size 8.5 - 9 shoe (medium width) and it fits like it is supposed to. There is a little room at the toe but not a lot. Maybe an inch? Glad of that. Wearing a sock will help the fit and the easy-to-operate pneumatic tool supplied is good. Fills in where it needs it around the heel. It is a bit lighter than a previous cane boot that I had following jones fracture surgery on my left foot. I ordered this for my right foot (trying to avoid stress fracture surgery on it!) and along with the green Superfeet insoles I will wear in my shoes, hopefully i can neutralize my gait and stop the supranation of my right foot and incur less damage. Will it work? Don't know but if I have to have surgery, I will need this boot anyhow. I can't see how a much larger or wider foot would fit into this boot comfortably. Maybe women's size 10 maximum. It is easy to put on and comes with good illustrations and directions but it's not complicated. I love to walk my dog and our outings have been quite painful for me. Hopefully this can alleviate the pain and allow the tissue to heal. I think it is a quality product and would buy again. I will update this review after I have worn it a while.

Buen producto
