The RCA Albums Collection

This is an awesome set. The sound quality is beautiful. Also, the replication of the original album cover-art is nice. I, however, do have a problem with the reckless design of packaging where there is no protective sleeve for the precious CD. I figured a way to remove and replace CD to avoid fingerprinting or scratching, but it does take a little effort. I can only imagine that something I believe is worth so much could be carelessly thought of so little as to endanger the product in this way. Another unfortunate situation arises when thinking of the missing albums which should definitely be part of this set. 'Shake' and 'The Wonderful World Of Sam Cooke' are two very important albums which should get the recognition they both very well deserve, understanding that 'The Wonderful World' is KEEN, but not understanding why the truly final RCA album "Shake" was overlooked. The music is more beautiful than ever! Enjoy if you can find it!

Of course, I have every single Sam Cooke LP ever released but it is a hassle to play vinyl these days. This collection contains some excellent re-engineered copies of Sam's RCA LP releases. You have to be a true Sam Cooke fan to enjoy these, however, because the LPs rarely contained all the Top 40 hits. Missing is The Best of Sam Cooke LP (the yellow cover) and the LPs released through the Tracey Limited arrangement. Those items belong to ABKCO. The booklet included with this package is excellent and contains some great information. A true Sam Cooke fan will love it.

I bought this for myself because I love Sam Cooke's music. The man was phenomenal.

Eight albums from the RCA creative period of the artist's soul in a box! It's admirable of RCA Records, which they ever after so many years, some albums that were for so long no longer available, have again made me and other fans available. Small drop of bitterness for bonus tracks such as Endstanden songs as singles only at that time, nor place would have been. Some titles have been published only on the albums' Shake (X) "," Try A Little Love (X) "," Ain't That Good News (X) "and" The Unforgettable Sam Cooke (X) are also .. not been considered since the above-mentioned four albums emerged only after his death, have already been released and unreleased tracks used remains to hope that these titles that I still search in another collection as "Singles - EPs and Rare album track-Edition "(see also: [ASIN:B004GZSWXC Wonderful World - The Very Best of Sam Cooke 1957-60 [ORIGINAL RECORDINGS REMASTERED] 2CD SET]]. Cooke's Tour was part of my music education taught by my father in the 60's. I bought this collection for that one CD. Am I ever glad that I did. I no longer live in the country of my birth and I attribute part of my travel bug due to this CD. Thank-you RCA and Amazon.

Some great songs but this album is a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. Evidently, most of Sam Cooke's most popular material was from the pre-RCA era. Cooke performs well and sometimes extraordinarily well, but the RCA albums suffer majorly from poor material, over-produced in Nelson Riddle fashion, as was popular sixty years ago. And, it is expen$$ive, a miserable value and a sorry insult to Sam Cooke's wonderful talent. You have been warned. Seek out non-RCA material from Sam Cooke unless you already have all that stuff and you need to feel complete by owning this, too.

これが興奮せずにいられるかい！ てやんでぃ！って生粋の大阪人ですが（笑） SamさんのRCA時代のｱﾙﾊﾞﾑは権利関係がややこしく今迄 CD化出来ずにいた。名作”Twisti'n The Night Away””Mr. Soul”等が初CD化ですぜ！旦那！ 紙ｼﾞｬｹもまずまずのｸｵﾘﾃｨでﾎﾞｰﾄﾗ類は無しだが、贅沢は言いますまい。ほぼ同時期に出たKeen時代音源を含む”Eight Classic Album Plus”とは3枚の ｱﾙﾊﾞﾑがﾀﾞﾌﾞﾘますが、あちらが針落としCDだったのに対してこちらはｵﾘｼﾞﾅﾙを使ったﾘﾏｽﾀｰと謳われてます。音質の向上は正直あまり感じませんが、 詳細なﾌﾞｯｸﾚｯﾄ共々 ”愛有るﾘｲｼｭｰ”です！ 1.Cooke's Tour ｺﾝｾﾌﾟﾄは「歌で世界を旅する」う〜ん Samさん以外でやってくれってな内容です。ﾋﾞｯｸﾊﾞﾝﾄﾞｽﾀｲﾙでｽﾀﾝﾀﾞｰﾄﾞを軽目のｱﾚﾝｼﾞで歌っています。 会社側のお仕着せに反抗出来なかったのでしょうが・・・ これは辛いぞ〜 #11は”Japanese Farewell Song”とあるが中国音階！（爆）歌詞は「さよなら〜」なんだが・ 2.Hit's Of The 50's 50年代の曲をSamさんが唄う！だが・・・ これも辛いぞ。 けど、後年Rod Stewartさんもｶﾊﾞｰした#4を見詰めた眼差しの先には Samさんがすくっと立っていた事を再確認した。 3.Sam Cooke ( Swing Low ) このｱﾙﾊﾞﾑより制作の主導権をSamさん側が勝ちえた盤。表題曲の軽さも心地よいし、SamさんとﾏﾈｰｼﾞｬｰJ.W Alexander作の#11の力強さも 頼もしい！ 後年の爆発はもうそこ迄来てる！と期待を持たせる終わり方ですなぁ（苦笑） あ！#7は「大きなのっぽの古時計」でした（笑） 4.My Kind Of A Blues #1から力強い歌が聴ける。押しと引きが絶妙やな。ｴﾝﾃﾞｨﾝｸﾞに掛けてどんどん盛り上がって行く歌が痛快！芸人の悲哀を映し出す#3も良いし、 軽快とは違い2ﾋﾞｰﾄのﾆｭｱﾝｽを感じさせながらSwingする#6のﾉﾘも凄い！このｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ辺りからSamさんの歌も力強く成って来る。#7や9の有名なBluesを取り上げた 事からこのｱﾙﾊﾞﾑﾀｲﾄﾙと成った。これを発展させたのが後年の傑作 ”Night Beat”と成って結実する。 5.Twistin' The Night Away ほんと長っが〜い間 待ってました！の大傑作 R&Bｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ！Twistﾌﾞｰﾑのさ中'62年にﾘﾘｰｽされた。ｺﾞｽﾍﾟﾙの熱気・陶酔を注ぎ込む事に成功している。 R&Bﾁｬｰﾄ#1 Popﾁｬｰﾄ#9まで上がった軽快に跳ねる#1でｽﾀｰﾄ！ #2は死後ｼﾝｸﾞﾙｶｯﾄされたﾊﾞｰｼﾞｮﾝとは異なるｱﾙﾊﾞﾑﾊﾞｰｼﾞｮﾝでこちらの方がHeavyで素敵！ 殆どの曲作りもSamさんが担当。Latimore Brownさんの原曲はSlowだったが軽く跳ねるﾘｽﾞﾑに作り変えた#4。悲しみを隠して陽気に跳ねるSamさんが居る。 後にJohnnie Taylorさんもｶﾊﾞｰした#5はｴｲﾄﾋﾞｰﾄでｺﾞﾂｺﾞﾂと攻める中にも、いなたく跳ねたｼｬｯﾌﾙの感覚が残っている。ﾈﾊﾞっこい歌い廻しが彼らしい。 #3/6/7等のTwist絡みの曲も良い出来。#10はGospelﾌﾚｰﾊﾞｰを称えた大Soulﾅﾝﾊﾞｰ！後にOtis Rushさんもｶﾊﾞｰした俗に言う ”Sam Cooke調”ﾅﾝﾊﾞｰ #11は先にThe Simes Twinsがﾋｯﾄさせたが、Samさんの方が懐が広く芳醇な味わいだ！ 6.Mr.Soul 先のｱﾙﾊﾞﾑに比べると個人的に物足りない感が有る（泣）但し昔の様にｽﾀﾝﾀﾞｰﾄﾞを歌ってもSamさんのここでの歌は力強く味わい深い。 #1/4/9等を始めｽｹｰﾙの大きなﾊﾞﾗｰﾄﾞを聴かせる。しかし美しい#10が収録されているだけで我々は黙るべきなのでR。 7.Night Beat Bluesのﾚﾊﾟｰﾄﾘｰを取り上げた 夜の静寂に響く都会の寂しさを映し出すSamさんの悲しげな声。Billy Prestonさんがｵﾙｶﾞﾝで参加。前編に渡って Ray Johnsonさんがﾋﾟｱﾉで良い仕事してます。#1 ｻﾋﾞの「ｳｯ」と裏声に返す所にｿﾞｸっ！とさせられる。男の色気を感じるわ。押しだけで無く引きの美学。 #3 Samさん作の佳曲 #5/6でもｽｹｰﾙの大きな歌を聞かせてくれます。#7 Bluesの定番曲を独自のｱﾚﾝｼﾞで聴かせる。鶏の鳴き声をｵﾙｶﾞﾝで再現している。 夜毎 愚痴とも付かぬ戯言が飛び交う#11の優しさでこのｱﾙﾊﾞﾑは決まりでしょ？ 8.One Night Stand '85年に発掘された時は世界中が度肝を抜かれたHarlem SquareでのLive。此処では後年のﾘｲｼｭｰﾊﾞｰｼﾞｮﾝ #1のOpening入りやVoをｶｯﾄせずｵﾘｼﾞﾅﾙで収録。 CopaのLiveが白人聴衆に対しての回答ならこれは黒人の為だけの盤だ！ｷﾝｸﾞ ｶｰﾃｨｽのﾊﾞﾝﾄﾞ＋Samさん自身のRoad Bandをﾊﾞｯｸに魂の赴くままに叫び歌う！ こんなご機嫌なLive盤には滅多な事じゃお目にかかれ無い！素晴らしい！本当に素晴らしい！ﾊｰﾄﾞなSamさんが聴きたけりゃこれ！ で 本当に有難いBoxなんですがね・・・・ Night Beat/One Night‾は以前に出された”The Man Who Invented Soul”にも入ってるし、単品でも持っているし、 都合うちには3枚ありますぜ（泣）此処までやるなら単品を含めｵﾘｼﾞﾅﾙｱﾙﾊﾞﾑで未CD化のShakeを入れて欲しかった！そりゃ曲はｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ”Keep Movin' On”で網羅 出来ますがねぇ。

This box set of Sam Cooke really is outstanding, at last RCA have released the comprehensive set of his recordings. The albums in question being "Cooke's Tour", "Hits of the 50's", "Swing Low", "My kind of blues", "Twisting the night away", "Mr Soul", " Night Beat" & the stunning live album "One night stand". Ok the first two is RCA's attempt to have Sam as a cross between Nat King Cole & Harry Belafonte but even here his voice although in a different key is quite simply amazing and the novelty of these records are interesting in themselves, where the set really comes into it's own is with the fourth album " My kind of blues" here Sam fully takes control and from then on it just get's better and better, rounding up with the wonderful small band sound of "Night Beat" & the awesome live album " One night stand" two of the greatest soul albums ever pressed. For too long fans have had to settle for compilations and it is just incredible hearing him doing songs I've never heard him do before plus with musicians of the class of "King Curtis", "Billy Preston", "Barney Kessell" and the brilliant piano player "Ray Johnson" the pleasure is endless. The box-set itself is neat, sturdy and well designed with the replica albums everything you could wish for with even easy to read back covers, plus a booklet with the data and personnel for each album this truly is an amazing price for such a set . Do yourself a favour and listen to the man who invented soul!

Il aura tout de même fallu attendre 25 ans (l'âge du cd)pour avoir ce coffret,mais cela valait la peine d'attendre.Le nul:le boitier externe qui donne l'impression du coffret pas cher,bâclé,mais lorsque vs l'ouvrez,bingo,vs êtes au paradis.Les pochettes internes sont superbes et enfin des gens intelligents,le cd sort tout seul de sa pochette cartonnée,pas besoin de mettre ses gros doigts au risque de salir le cd,non cela a été bien pensé et c'est bien la prelière fois que je vois cela.Venons en au contenu,que les albums (hélas)mais quelle remastérisation,du son haut de gamme,il fallait bien cela pour ce bon Sam,quelle voix...Il ne me rest plus qu'à espérer un autre coffret avec les singles,de quoi faire 2 cds,j'espère ne pas attendre 25 autres années,ou bien il faudra m'envoyer le coffret au paradis........ A se procurer de toute urgence,un cadeau pour ce prix.... Gilles

Hay que tenerla si o sí. Imprescindible esta caja y el bueno de Sam Cooke tambiÉn en nuestras vidas. Son sus primeras grabaciones, tal vez se echan en falta esas canciones a favor de los derechos civiles como a change is gonna come, pero por contra está uno de los mejores discos en directo: Live at the Harlem Square Club. Una delicia!! Y empaquetados en mini cd (réplica vinilo). Buen trabajo de Sony Legacy.
