Junior Learning: CVC Word Builders, 48 CVC Activity Cards, Phonemic Awareness, Helps Children to Recognize and Understand Basic Sounds in Words, Self Checking Feature, For Ages 4 and up

Love these cards. I bought for my four year old along with letter tiles from a different company that were cheaper and fit perfectly in the sound spaces. I teach kindergarten and we use two different phonics and reading programs. I would absolutely use these in my classroom. We are encouraged to make these same “sound boxes” on our own but what is nice is that this includes the picture and IT IS DONE FOR YOU! Children today are memorizing words but struggle with actually segmenting in order to spell words correctly or sound out long decodable words. My daughter started segmenting perfectly with these! It made her excited to start learning to sound out words as she has been reluctant to play around with letter sounds (go figure).

I bought these because my bkys are ready to start putting small words together. This will give them a guide for the very begining reading of 3 letter words so they grasp the concept of whats going on. It will help with speech, recognizing letters, counting and all sorts of things. The cards are sturdy card board so they will stand up to my rough and tough guys. They were actually excited when we opened it up. They started playing and matching color words immediatly.

Using these in small groups on Fridays as a reward for working hard all week. I have students read the words on the cards out loud. Works great for extra practice and they do not even realize they are working.

Guys. Be creative. Use other letter tools. Your child can write it with a dry erase marker (or crayong, or regular marker, or pencil...). They can build it with playdoh letters or wikistix. You can get cheap letter magnets at the dollar store. The purpose is to decompose and blend the sounds. You can use any related manipulative you can get your hands on. I will be using Educational Insights Color-Coded Lowercase AlphaMagnets for my virtual lessons. My only complaints about this set are superficial. 1) The cards take up only 50% of the box. There's a huge spacer. I'm not sure if that's so you can store your cubes in the same box, but if not - kind of a waste of space. 2) The box is very flimsy. The cards will likely outlast the container by many years. In a classroom, I wouldn't expect the box to make it to the end of the school year. At home, you may get a few months longer. The cards are very sturdy. 3) What are the color levels about? I didn't notice anything in particular as a substantial difference between words on different colored cards. And why not have equal numbers for each color?

This product works well enough; the pictures are colorful, the cards are sturdy, and there is a wide variety of CVC words for practice. I expected to find letter cards inside for placing on the 3 squares under the picture, but alas.... no cards. My kids had to look at the picture, turn over the card, and then decode the letters. Building the word is more powerful and kinesthetic. Using the boxes as an Elkonin activity is fine, but not exactly what I was looking for.

This product is great. I use it with my special education students in the primary grades. The pictures are cute and bright, and they keep my students engaged. Students use the dots underneath the picture to stretch the word/push up the sounds. They also use a dry-erase marker to write the letters of the word on the table, or they use magnetic letters to create the word. I use this product a lot in teaching my students to segment and blend.

I love using these as a center in my kindergarten classroom! They are super easy to use

Purchased it as a learning tool to reteach my adult daughter who was a passenger in a fatal car wreck and acquired a severe diffuse axonal traumatic brain injury and severe short term memory loss. I’m literally having to retrain and hopefully help reroute the sheared neurons in her brain. From ABC’s to 123’s, and the use of her extremities. I’m so thankful she’s not paralyzed; however at this time, she’s wheelchair and bed bound and is transferred via a hoyer and a sling. I wish I could share the experience we are now having to retrain her brain especially when there’s short term memory loss in the way. So this and other youthful educational tools have helped, but once again the short term memory loss is killing the 2 of us.
