Simran THG-1000 Step Down Voltage Transformer 1000 Watts Converts AC 220/240 Volt to 110 Volt

If all you need is the step-down function, don't bother with the much bigger step-up/step-down boxes. I bought 2 much larger units with step-up functions before moving overseas and both broke within the first year. I've had this now for 2 years now and it works great.

I live in Kenya and bought this to power my US purchased equipment, a Samsung F8000 55" LED TV and Logitech Z5500 Speakers. They connect to the step down via a power strip. This unit is flawless, super quiet even under heavy load and above all, runs very very cool. A++++++++

Bought it together with InSinkErator to use in Europe. Only installed it about a week ago - works perfectly fine. Note that it's rather big and heavy but it's normal for a 1KW transformer.

This is a great deal for a 1000 watt transformer. We are in German and I use it for my desk top computer and all the accessories. I hardly notice that it is running because it is so quiet. It is small in size and takes up very little space. The only negative thing is that it doesn't have an on and off switch but you can always unplug it when not needed. I would reccomend and would buy again

Here's my experience with this device thus far - Brought to use in Serbia. Blew 2/3 fuses trying to get it to work until I decided to pay attention to the large warning that's clearly visible on the device that says to have your appliance(s) plugged in prior to plugging this transformer into the wall socket. After I did that, it hasn't been a problem since and has worked perfectly for just about a month now. I have a 110/120 volt surge protector plugged into it, which wasn't enough to prevent the transformer from blowing a fuse. But just about any device plugged into that surge protector will work. Currently I have a 600watt tower computer and a 24" LED TV plugged into it. Like most others who bought this I gave it 4/5 simply for the 'no on/off switch' but also because of the 'need to have a device using enough power plugged in before plugging the 220/240 end in. However, using a simple 220/240 surge protector to operate the on/off functionality of this device solves all these minor issues. So in conclusion, great device, works perfectly, but needs some minor adjustments to have a safe setup. So from the 220/240 socket in the wall buy a cheap surge protector for that, then plug this transformer into that, rather the wall. From there either plug in you 110/120 device, or a 110/120 surge protector if you have multiple devices. Just make sure before you flip the switch on the 220/240 surge protector that everything is ready to power up (on position). Great deal for the price, not too cheap, not too expensive, but requires a little maneuvering if that pesky on/off switch missing is a problem. Also having it connected to a 220/240 surge protector provides some safety as well imo.

Zero stars. This transformer is a death trap waiting to kill someone. If you have one STOP USING IT NOW. At the very least, get it reworked by a competent person I noticed some funny voltages and started measuring things and found there was no safety earth on the 120V output. I took it apart and it breaks every safety rule in the book. It relies on the heavily varnished core to connect the primary and secondary safety earths, the chassis is not bonded to earth either. Funny thing is, it has a CE mark. One requirement of having a CE mark is the manufacturer's address has to be on the product - it isn't. There is, IMHO, NO WAY this would ever pass even a cursory inspection. Another example, a single insulation fault could make the chassis live.

Exactly what I ordered, but due to wiring problems I needed to return it. Set it out for the UPS guy to pick up and it was stolen off the porch before he arrived. Sooo no return. But it was the right item and everything Amazon did was great.

This is a heavy part. It was to my dismay that one of the prongs of the plug was broken during shipping due to bad packaging. It was a hassle to return such a heavy part so I repaired the plug myself. After rebuilding the plug the transformer performed perfectly. I used it for running a laser printer which uses 600W when printing and the transformer handles the job just fine. I did notice some loud humming from the transformer when the printer is printing though everything seems to work perfectly. It runs cool and has been running for a week continuously so far without incident. So other than the poor packaging I am happy with it.
