This installment is the best in the series, in my opinion. First of all, this seems to be the point in which the anime storyline took a serious departure from the manga, so I feel like I really got my money's worth in extra character and story development. I didn't think I would enjoy hearing Bishamon's backstory but it really helps in understanding her character. Bishamon goes from being the simple antagonist who Is just out to settle a grudge with Yato to being a multi-dimensional complicated character who seeks revenge for the death of her shinki, in part to ease her own feelings of guilt. After reading this volume, I can see that Yato and Bishamon are very similar in that they care deeply for their shinkis, although this affection manifests itself in entirely different ways...Yato looks for that one spirit to form an unbreakable bond with whereas Bishamon takes more the crazy cat hoarder approach. We also see Yukine grow and mature since the ablution and get to know his hopes and fears regarding Hiyori. I felt like his part of the story got just as much play as Bishamon's and made him much more interesting and likeable. Looking forward to reading the next volume!
