A+ Workhorse Laptop! (Check Each Seller Profile Before Buying)
Initial Review: The Latitude series has always been known to be Dell's Workhorse series of laptop computers. The E6420 is no exception! This review will consist of separate ratings for both the seller, and the product itself. First we will talk about why I bought the computer, then we will dive into the product itself. Why? This laptop functions for me as a work laptop. My job consists of frequent use of the Microsoft suite, especially Excel, and use of mid-range photo editing software (Adobe Photoshop). The laptop won't be used for high end editing, and I'm not 100% sure it is up to the task of high end rendering. Luckily, the laptop is extremely up-gradable, with HDD and RAM being the first two things to think of. So if you really wanted to boost that available memory; its possible. Now lets get into the product itself, Product rating: 9/10 (as of 3/22/2016) First, the E6420 is a laptop line that was initially manufactured starting in 2011 as a continuation of the Latitude workhorse laptop series that Dell was running. My specific laptop comes equipped with an Intel i5-2520M CPU @ 2.50GHz, 4GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 3000 video card, and a 128GB SSD* The keyboard is not backlit, but my specific laptop does have a webcam equipped. Additionally, I have a finger scanner for access. One thing about the E6420 that you should be aware of is the extreme variations in the configurations out there on the market. The one you're looking at may have a webcam, or it may not... it may have the standard 320GB HDD, or like mine, that may have been swapped by the previous owner for a different sized memory drive... you may have 4 or 8 GB or RAM... and this is something that you should look into before making your purchase. Always message the seller and ask specific questions about the Laptop. If you're looking for a backlit keyboard, you may have to ask many sellers whether or not that is equipped on the computer they're selling... But regardless, back to the review. I will bulletpoint pro's and con's: PROS - - The laptop is sturdy (outer shell is metal, inner is rubberized plastic) - The keyboard is very ergonomic, and typing is easy - The screen is well lit and colored - Trackpad (aka Mouse nipple) on the laptop - Easily modifiable RAM and Memory drive - A STEAL! (Laptop still sells for $1,000+ new... mine was $230) - Great workhorse computer - Insane battery life (thanks to 9 cell battery, I get about 7-8 hours at max usage) - Docking station for easy conversion into desktop environment CONS - - Heavy (approx 6lbs) - Not really made for high performance rendering - Massive variations in configurations make selecting the laptop a chore The laptop itself is great for anything that a basic business could ask from an employee! Unless you're in a specialized field that requires high performance rendering or editing software, this laptop should do you just fine! SELLER REVIEW - 10/10 Quick note: As mentioned earlier, these laptops come in a variety of configurations. Because of this fact, it is up to you as the buyer to make sure that you are purchasing the laptop that you want. SPEND SOME TIME shopping around the marketplace sellers, and ask questions about what their product includes. Mine came with windows 10, the Office 16 suite, and a different hard drive than the factory stock (which is what I was looking for). If you don't do your research with each listing, you may end up with a laptop that you didn't actually want, or that was missing features that you did want. I've come to find that many of the negative reviews here are from people who didn't properly research their seller, and bought the cheapest laptop (and hence, received the cheapest product). Take your time and find the laptop that you will like! I bought my laptop from seller "AffordableQualityTech". Because the laptop had a non-standard hard drive, the seller offered to cut me a deal and take off a portion of the price, which was a pleasant surprise! I contacted the seller about the hard drive, and was offered the price drop. I took it, and ordered the laptop. The laptop itself shipped within the next hour, and arrived at my residence on the first day of the shipping window. The seller's description of the laptop underscored what it should have been. It was listed in excellent condition, but arrived in "Like new". There are no visual marks on the laptop itself that could be rubbed off with a finger. All pieces of the laptop were included (SD Card slot covers, buttons, keys, charger, etc.) and in perfect working condition. The boot-up was perfect, and the laptop included what the seller listed. Windows 10 Enterprise, Office 2016, and many more business oriented applications were pre-installed onto the laptop, which made my life a lot easier! The setup was simple, as an admin account already existed, and I am the only one using this computer. Overall, I give the seller an A++ for such super service! They were with me from the very beginning, and have let me know if I have any questions they're open-ears. AffordableQualityTech was my seller, FYI. -------- Final recommendations: If you're looking for a laptop for college, work, or just a sturdy laptop, this is it. Research your sellers, and I'm sure you'll have an experience like mine.

A steal!!
I bought this computer refurbished for $250 about three months ago, and I am very happy with it. This computer has excellent reviews online and sells for over $1000; it's also very study and the Windows 7 is great. I use it several hours a day for work and personal use, and so far have had no problems. Some people have complained about the weight, but unless you travel a lot and/or don't want to carry something that heavy, it shouldn't be a problem. If you can find this machine under $300 or even $400, I think it's well worth the money. Only cons I can think of are that it has only one outlet for microphone and headphone use, so you would have to have a headset if you need both. Also there is no scrollbar on the finger pad, so you might want to have an external mouse to make scrolling easier.

Slow and freeze up on sign in
It worked slowly, but it would freeze up on the sign in screen. Also if you use up all the battery and don't put it in the charger then it takes forever to restart and then again sometimes would freeze on sign in screen. Besides that it worked for what we needed at the time but it was slooooow

AWESOME & Powerful Cheap laptop, Link tronics is a good seller, but beware of bad hard drives.
I ordered two refurbished units from linktronics memory, if you're looking for a machine that looks brand new, the machine I received certainly wasn't that, but I wasn't expecting that for $180. Honestly, for $180 this machine exceeded my expectations. The bottom had a ton of little scratches on it, but it's the bottom of the laptop, so that wasn't a huge concern. The screen, touch pad, and keyboard look brand new and are flawless (not even a single scratch). The lid of the laptop looks close-to flawless as well. The only reason I'm taking away a star is because one of the laptops had a drive with tons of bad and reallocated sectors, it was pretty much an unusable drive (unless you want all the data to get corrupted a few months down the road). It wasn't a huge deal for me because I'm replacing the HDDs with a SSDs anyways, it was just a little frustrating to receive a "Fully working laptop" that had a close to failing hard drive. I would recommend the seller check the SMART status of all hard drives on the machines before shipping them off...

Very Robust laptop
I was planning to buy new laptop & was searching for medium configurations that will do my day to day activities. I found this awesome deal & the laptop I received was almost like a new one. There was some whitish spot on top with some color fading but apart from that I did not noticed any single scratch anywhere. I turned it on & was able to play around for 6-7 hours without having power cord attached to it. The battery life is excellent that I received with this laptop. It works perfectly & did not see any performance issues. I tried watching movie, played songs as well as tried launching different applications at the same time & it did not hung at any moment. Material used for body is very good & keypad is also nice. I had problem with hinge for my earlier laptop so I checked the hinges for this one & this looks robust to me. Overall this is nice to have especially its best deal with at this price. Cons - little heavy in weight but I'm okay having heavier laptop if performance is good.

I like it... I like it a lot
Super happy with this laptop. I got it from a seller for $169. Way under the average. Was a little nervous about the lower cost, but took the chance. The one I got is a little scuffed up, but I knew that because the seller actually posted pictures of the actual laptop instead of just a stock photo. The computer is fast. Of course, I made it a little bit faster adding 8 gb ram (10 gb total) and a 1 tb hybrid hard drive. I know this is only a 2nd generation i5, but it still does everything I need it to do, and quickly. Also, as long as you have the A22 bios, you can add 16 gb ram (8gb x 2), contrary to the specs that states this laptop only supports up to 8 gb ram. This laptop is solid and well made. I don't think it's heavy. The display is very nice, and the machine is quiet. No complaints.

AVOID LINK-TRONICS MEMORY
Great value had they worked however the units that "LINK-TRONICS MEMORY" sent me both had loose power connectors on the laptop. They both died within 4 months of stationary use. I can't imagine someone actually using these in normal laptop conditions. Contacted the vendor and they told me they could not help and "offered" to fix the laptops for $65 a piece in very broken English. AVOID UNLESS YOU CAN FIX THEM YOURSELF. They also forgot to screw the hard drives in place and did not include the screws. Both sticks of Ram died, which I had to replace and were different clock speeds upon inspection. What a nightmare.

Excellent Choice in Pre-Owned Laptop; Better than Many Windows 8 Machines
This laptop was state of the art in 2012 and is still an outstanding buy today. It's an excellent alternative to buying an entry level PC from Wally-Mart or Worst Buy; you'll be delighted with the product and probably spend less. Windows 7 is a delight to use, unlike the abomination that succeeded it. Build quality is rugged and tight, keys are crisp, and screen quality is on a par with the better models on the market today. I am quite happy with this product and with the vendor I bought it from: VertexPC. One tip: you will need the 25 character product key to activate Windows. It's on the shipping form that comes with the computer.
