MAXXIS Grifter - Single Compound | Freestyle BMX Tire

Much much faster on pavement than most 29" tires, and one of the fastest we've tried. Easy enough to mount on the rims. They will grab small rocks for the first couple rides so fenders are a good to have. Very fast for gravel/hard pack and very happy with em so far.

I'm using them on a Specialized mountain bike to replace the knobby tires. I wanted a tire for paved trails, but also gravel and off road. So far I like them. They roll great on asphalt, and perform well on gravel trails and grass also. It's been a month, many miles of gravel and city pavement, curbs, and so far no problems. They do pick up small pebbles in the tread, but seem to self clean out ok with use. No flats yet. They look great.

Item is as described. I do not care for knobby type tires for my mountain bike, and this tire fits the bill. Additionally, the tire arrived very quickly and ahead of schedule. Survey says: TWO THUMBS UP!

Wiktionary defines griftefr as follows: A con man. Someone who pulls confidence games. a person who swindles you by means of deception or fraud. This tire arrives in a small box. It is folded. When removed, it resembles wrinkled fabric. Its hard to mount because it falls away from the rim. I used clothes pins to hold it in place as I worked it around the rim. I inserted a tube and, because the tire seemed so flimsy, I inserted a puncture resistant strip. After I finished mounting the tire, I pumped it to 15 psi and bounced it to get out any pinches and folds. Then I pumped it to 30. It's round like a balloon. I will ride only short distances until I gain some confidence in it durability. The BMX tire guide that comes with it indicates that it is to be used only for riding in dirt. Yikes! I would not buy this tire again.

Great all around city or rail trail tire. I purchased for my spare mountain bike rims so I could ride around the neighborhood streets and rail trails during the off season of mountain biking in Michigan. Mounted up very easily and inflated to 55lbs of pressure to start with. They are performing very well. The tires corner really well, but not as fast as I had hoped they would be. Seem very durable and should last me a long time for my off season winter riding around the neighborhood.

First ride impressions exceeded expectations. I rode about 4 miles to a skatepark picked up a staple and it did not go through the tire it went halfway through and was stopped. I was able to pull it out and continue riding to the skatepark rode for a few hours. Super grippy throughout the entire park fast rolling cut commute time by 1\4. Overall I'm impressed by maxxis. No I'm not being paid to write this.

Nice riding tire but you’d better be good at changing tubes if you buy these. Since March I’ve had 8 tubes get punctured. I ride all paved trails but the groove pattern is so tight that it collects what seems to be every pebble out there. All it takes is one with a sharp edge to work its way through the tire and puncture the tube

I've had 6 flats in the 2 months since I purchased this set. They pickup and hold small glass shards unlike any tread that I have used before. I threw them out. I'm an urban commuter with 4,000 miles per year so have a lot of experience with tires. They are probably great on very clean rural roads. Not good for dirty, urban shoulders. I question whether these are really Maxxis.
