D'Addario Flat Tops Phosphor Bronze Strings EFT16, 12-53

I previously used Phosphor Bronze strings (usually D'Addario) or Silk & Steel (D'Addario, Martin, LaBella). I wanted something that was brighter than Silk & Steel but could still reduce string squeak while recording.So far, these strings have fit the bill. I play mostly fingerstyle (with finger tips, rarely with nails) on a 000-sized Martin guitar. And I usually record it with an LDC. These flat tops have reduced the amount of slide noises to a more hospitable level.I've gone through several sets of these strings and I've yet to encounter any quality control issues. No string breaks or unraveling.If you want to close mic an acoustic guitar without all the extra finger squeaks, then give these a try.

Love flat wounds on my bass, so I thought I would try these for my acoustic. They work great.....

When I play I do a lot of sliding up and down the frets while plugged in. As is typical, the fret squeak was quite loud. Now with these flat tops installed, the fret squeak has been all but eliminated. Seriously. Sure, there's still a little but it's barely noticeable. These would indeed be great for recording. They feel pretty smooth to the touch, something akin to the grooves on a small metal nail file.True to the chart on the back of the box, these are very mellow strings. Not quite as mellow as the silk wound strings, which I've also tried but noticeably more mellow and quiet than the phosphor bronze light gauge that I normally use. This is not a problem while plugged in, which I am most of the time. However, if you normally play purely acoustic, I would not recommend these.

I have searched for the "right" string for while. I found these and read some reviews and figured that since guitar strings are relatively cheap, I'd give them a shot.I have them on a 1965 Harmony H165 (all mahogany, professionally set up)Here's what I like:Very low "pressure" on my fingers. In fact, they feel great, I don't think they are like flat wounds at all. In fact I think it's pertinent to mention that they still look like round wounds and the "flat tops" are very subtle. I know some people have commented that they don't like the feel on the thumb when finger picking, but I like it. Reduced string noise with chord changes and slides. Good "mellow" (but not too mellow) sound. They hold tune very well.Here's what I don't like:While they have a very nice mellow sound, they are also more "quiet" than regular round wound strings. This is only a problem when I play in a group and need extra volume to be heard, but when I am at home by myself, it's nice to have the volume a little lower (give and take). They sound a bit "tinny" or "thin" for the first day or so, not too harsh, but noticeable.All in all, I would say these are great strings (D'Addario makes good quality stuff). I recommend trying them. They have a good sound and are very comfortable. I may switch to a regular round wound for playing in a group setting, but these are probably my new favorites for home.

These reviews really are all over the place. I love these strings. I've been playing for a very long time, and these strings squeek way less than standard phosphor bronze and have a better feel than the coated strings. They're not flatwounds, for sure, but they're certainly not roundwounds either.I fingerpick, flatpick and whatever in between is. I've tried a lot of other strings, including Ernie Ball Paradigm (very nice strings, BTW), but I always go back to the Flat Tops. If you're really looking for flatwound acoustic strings, Thamastik-Infeld makes some but they're over twice the price. I can really tell the difference on my J100, the tone is very balanced and full- other guitars not as much. True to Daddario quality they stay in tune and I've never had one break.

I decided to try these strings over the previous bronze strings on my acoustic. These are wrapped in a way that makes the wrapped wire less "abrasive" or less hills/valleys between the coils around the main wire. As a result your fingers slide easier, take less wear/tear on your finger tips and the "string noise" of your hand changing positions is greatly reduced. Feels like silk. If you like that sound, then you will notice it is gone. The actual sound of the notes however sound great with these strings. Really warm and full sounding strings. I wish I have found these strings sooner. I doubt I will put anything else on my acoustic guitars going forward. I am using these on an Ovation, Yamaha and Montera guitar.

Not the right string for every player. Has a warm sound, probably too warm for the cowboy chord strummers out there. Also not very loud. But for me on my triple O Martin they are just right. I play a chord melody style advanced jazz/blues. Very laid back and intimate music. Much improvisation, and a very legato style using finger slides up and down to notes. The flattish wind has low finger noise. Not completely gone like true flat wounds (which I use on electrics) but diminished. Try them on your small bodied parlor type guitar. You might like them. Also, like flat wounds they are a bit pricey. Hope they last a long time before going dead....

I have used this brand of guitar strings previously, but not this particular type. Very happy with the outcome. They sound great. Very good quality.

Ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo, montate sulla mia Ibanez PF17 ne ha pulito il suono soprattutto negli spostamenti verticali. Decisamente ha irrobustito il tono e soprattutto il riverbero!!! Da provare!!!

Si no te molesta el .12 estas cuerdas tienen el balance de medios y graves calidos. Conservaron si brillo por 3 meses con uso moderado en una Ej 200 para mi gusto si lo valen para ser las cuerdas que casi nadie quiere tocar.
