Excellent construction, very handy for mounting a lug bag gauge to a base
It's difficult to tell, but the piece looks like it's in a natural finish in Amazon's picture. The one I received appears to be black anodized. Overall, it's perfect for mounting a lug back gauge onto a magnetic base or fixture. Typical quality from Starrett (if we're only talking about their products still made in the USA).

Great product for dial indicators
I use mine as an adapter to put my digital indicator on my support arm while taking critical measurements on aircraft.

Excellent quality, typical Starrett
Excellent quality, typical Starrett. However, the 1/4" stem did not fit my 8mm Noga mag base clamp. I made a split collet out of an 8mm bolt by drilling the bolt out 1/4", cutting it down to about 10mm long, and splitting it along the side with a slitting saw. Now I can use this with my lug backed Mitutoyo indicator and Noga mag base.

Can be used with Noga stand if used with PT00764 bushing
If you have a Noga indicator stand, and want to attach it to the lug at the back of a dial indicator, use this along with Starrett PT00764 split bushing. The bushing adapts the 1/4" outside diameter of the 657Y post to the 3/8" inside diameter hole of the Noga holder. Note if your dial indicator already has a 3/8" stem, then it can be attached directly to the Noga holder without any additional attachments.
