## Description

Killer new studio disc by this bad-ass blues/rock axeripper from N.Y.C. featuring 9 tracks (62 mins.) of brain-damaging, retro-70s, blues-based heavy guitar power trio riffage complete with extended, over-the-top, face-melting, lead guitar jams that rock the blues with raw, wild abandon. Guitar Pete Brasino is a relentless lead guitar animal who destroys and devours everything in his path. The man is a fearless guitar warrior on a 'world domination' mission to Keep the Rock alive, wielding a fierce six string weapon of mass destruction on the 'Bad Intentions' disc.

TIRED OF SHINY, MILLION BEATS-A-SECOND, PLASTIC MUSIC? REAL ROCKIN'/BLUES GUITAR IS NOT DEAD!

*by S***N on Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2015*

I know this has already been reviewed, but maybe for those music lovers who read my reviews with any regularity (thank you) who might not be aware of Guitar Pete and just how good a player he is, I thought I'd say a few words. In the old days of the record boom in the late '60s, when labels were signing up virtually anyone who could play a few notes on the guitar and sing passably, Pete Brasino (his given name) would've been signed in a nano second. I rated this somewhere around four "stars" but I can easily see (hear) why many fans have given this album five "stars". To each his own.If you're really into music no doubt you have a couple of guilty music pleasures--the stuff you don't readily admit you listen to and like. One of mine is a Texas band that got lumped into the whole "Southern Rock" thing when the ABB, Skynyrd, and other bands from that region starting getting some well deserved press coverage. The band is Point Blank, with Rusty Burns on guitar/slide guitar, plus an intense vocalist, along with a no nonsense basic rhythm section. Their first two albums are loaded with over the top vocals and smokin' guitars. Ahh...satisfying.Anyway, what does that have to do with Guitar Pete? Well, while being happily bludgeoned by Point Blank I thought I'd give Pete's album a good spin again. Wow. He can play the guitar. Listening to this (60+ minutes) album again is an exhilarating experience. A trio of guitar/bass/drums with Pete on vocals, this album is pretty heavy with little let-up. About the closest I can come to a similar sound by another band fans will know is early ZZ Top (before the drum machines) and Point Blank. The growling vocals (also similar to Chris Youlden of Savoy Brown), the no frills bass/drums, and Pete's lead/rhythm guitar fills/solos are straight out of up/medium tempo ZZ Top. His slide work and thick fills are classic Billy Gibbons and the boys. There's very little let up across these tunes, all by Guitar Pete--except "Goin' Down To Mexico", by ZZ Top, and "Warning", by members of the late (good) '60s British band Aynsley Dunbar's Retaliation. But Brasino gives ZZ Top a real run for their money on his own "Creepin'", a long intensely smokin' tune with pile-driving rhythm section and Pete's guitar getting it done. Or try "Snake Pit", with it's "Jesus Just Left Chicago" (ZZ Top) melody/vocals/guitars. With overdubbing the guitar work is cranked up to somewhere around 11--but in a good way. Like I said--he can play. Other tunes are similar--his guitar is up front where it should be and his vocals, with a darker Billy Gibbons sound--add to the whole sonic experience. The thick layer of guitars is almost overwhelming--with little let-up--which again--is a good thing if you're into what the electric guitar can do in the hands of somebody who knows his way around the fretboard.Well, I've said enough. If you want something a bit retro (I guess you could call it that) but with it's own identity, try this album on for size. Turned up a bit this will overheat your amp and blow the cobwebs out of your speakers. And if you're into air guitar, playing this is guaranteed to make your arms ache. Guitar Pete has released several albums--all similarly smokin'. Check the others out if this music is your thing. The only other albums I can vouch for are "Live At The Blues Warehouse" (2009), and "Rare Tracks" (2013), and all (including this album) on the Grooveyard Records label. The packaging is flimsy cardboard and there's no booklet or notes to speak of--just song titles and recording information. But with music this great who cares. So strap on your seat belt, it's going to be an exhilarating ride.
