Review: Bose Brackets Mounted on to Pre-Wired Speaker Wall Plates - My house is a new construction home and the builder pre-wired the living room for surround sound. As a result where all the speaker wire was ran, there were these blank wall plates to hide them. I knew when I ordered these that they would be smaller than the wall plates because my dad has the exact same setup at his house. So I did what he did, which was to mount the brackets directly to the wall plate. He did these a while back so he didn't remember the details, so what I did to compensate was I went and bought flat head machine screws with nuts. I believe 10-32 screws like the ones found here: #10-32x3/4" Flat Head Screws with Nuts I then removed the wall plates, used the included template and a sharpie to mark the drill holes, and drilled what I believe was a 7/32" hole in the marked spots. I screwed down the brackets with the nut on the inside to hold it in place and screwed the wall plates back to their housing (which was very sturdy). I wall mounted them so the extension arms were not needed. They can be adjusted by loosening a screw, which when tightened will hold them securely. The brackets use serrations (detents) to lock them in, so they are not infinitely adjustable but still have many possible positions. On one side I have the speaker aimed downward towards the wall behind the sofa to bounce the sound behind the listener. The other side aims downward toward the listener on the other sofa from behind. This was a good solution for our medium sized living room. I ran the cables under the floor and up the wall along a window frame on one side and a door frame on the other, so the wires aren't noticeable. The package included a template for marking holes, plus screws and anchors. Installation was easy.
