A Disappearing Art but Still Relevant to Digital Rendering
This is a classic book concerning rendering with markers. Everything has changed because of digital rendering. Still what is attempted in digital rendering is similar to what was attempted with marker, colored pencil, gauche, ink and oil paste. Professionals that can employ these media well, seem to better understand the digital possibilities in Trace, Procreate, Lumion, and Prisma plus many other digital technologies. It is easy to tell the difference between someone what can render with the hand concerning the more traditional media when they apply themselves to digital media, than those who have no traditional skills-- if one cannot draw, the computer may not save one. The book is an intermediary between a time when architectural renderings were accomplished in ink and watercolor, then to marker, and now digitally. And while the media has changed, the intent has not. Therefore the book is not necessarily dated, but still fresh and useful. A few years ago, some student took my former copy and never returned it, so I felt fortunate that I could still obtain a copy. The book is short on explanation, but almost every page is filled with inspiration and advice. The featured renderers in the book the are many of the very best. This book is still relevant in the digital world.

Disappointing
This book shows some nice examples of marker renderings BUT what it lacks is step-by-step instruction of the process. "Guest Artists" present examples of their work along with a lot of verbage, too much in fact for a book about graphics... so what you have is an end-result (example rendering/s) coupled with longwinded written descriptions about technique. Yuck. Given the glowing reviews here for this book, I was shocked at how disapponting it was. I tried to change my rating to 2-stars but apparently one cannot go back and edit that part of the review. First book I have ever returned to Amazon.

This book does have some interesting ideas to help people who are drawing landscapes. Just a note, most of the drawings revolve around drawing interior and exterior building landscapes. The kind you would see if you were planning on building an apartment complex or mall and you want to show what it would look like.

Grest book for a marker enthusiast
Being an interior design, I was looking for a way to make my drawings and quick renderings better and I then came across this book. It is reasonable, and contains a lot of information on markers and it great for designers looking for techniques as well as inspiration. I never thought that marker art could be that powerful, however now I do. In conclusion, if you want to further explore markers - get this book!

The illustrations/examples in this book seem dated. Is there a newer version?

Outstanding design techniques
Best book I ever bought. I'm studying design and this has taught me so much about markers and combining them with other media. Wish I'd read it months ago.

Wonderful introduction to markers and techniques!
I love the format of this book - broken up into sections such as "Marker Rendering Basics", and "Illustrating Architectural and Interior Elements" - and within each of these sections, a series of questions and answers. For example, the first 'lesson' asks the question "What are the advantages of using ink line and colour markers for design presentaions?" - and goes on to discuss this - and each of these 'lessons' has a box giving suggested practice and / or tips, tricks, warnings, shortcuts etc. The illustrations are both attractive and useful throughout, and overall I found it not only a great introduction to the subject, but also very enjoyable too!

Very useful for colouring in my architecture program. Recommended for anyone who needs to render a drawing with colour and thinks that they cannot.
