## Description

Here is Jim Morrison in all his complexity-singer, philosopher, poet, delinquent-the brilliant, charismatic, and obsessed seeker who rejected authority in any form, the explorer who probed "the bounds of reality to see what would happen..." Seven years in the writing, this definitive biography is the work of two men whose empathy and experience with Jim Morrison uniquely prepared them to recount this modern tragedy: Jerry Hopkins, whose famous Presley biography, Elvis, was inspired by Morrison's suggestion, and Danny Sugerman, confidant of and aide to the Doors. With an afterword by Michael McClure.

Review: For The Life And Times Of Jim Morrison - I first got this book back in high school at the local Pathmark store in the township where I grew up and have re-read it many times until the paperback copy wore itself out over the years[One of my classmates even borrowed it to give a book report on it]. I'm happy to find a copy of it here with some updates yet. Jerry Hopkins and Danny Sugarman had given the biography of Doors singer Jim Morrison that no one has given before or since. It brings his humble beginnings as a nomad to his surroundings of the West Coast when after attending UCLA film school forms a band with film school buddy-keyboardist Ray Manzarek soon joined by his Transcendental Mediation classmates Guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore and then make rock history. Morrison had always pushed the boundaries wherever he went in his life whether as a student, a poet or a rock performer. His career with The Doors was a roller coaster of ups and downs, especially when it came to the controversial concert in Miami which almost signaled the end[No pun intended on the Doors' song title]of the group. Throughout it all remaining by his side was his soulmate Pamela Courson, who envisioned Jim as a poet rather than a rock singer and her father, like Jim's, was also a Navy officer. It would also be ironic that Jim himself would become part of the "27 Club", especially when he said to friends after the deaths of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, "You're drinking with number three", just seven months hence. This book would become part of a Doors revival which started with the album An American Prayer in 1978 and would follow with countless videos and compilations of unreleased material not to mention The Doors biopic with Val Kilmer. For the best readings of Jim Morrison's life, get this while you can and you will enjoy it too.
Review: Good read - Good book funny
