    A Major Contemporary Choral Work that Pleads for Peace

The large choral group that I and my wife belong to just gave a performance of Jenkins' "The Armed Man", and our performance was one that will be long remembered not only by the chorus, but by those who attended.  It is going to take a while for this work to make the rounds of most choirs and choruses to make a significant impact on its performers and listeners.  "The Armed Man" is the one contemporary choral work that has had a major impact on me, both emotionally and spiritually.  The movements of Jenkins's work gradually grow in intensity and impact to impress performers and listeners of the horrors of war, and why all men need to work for peace instead of trying to impose their values and beliefs on people of different cultures and nationalities.  Some of the texts chosen are quite graphic as well as the music accompanying them.  Despite the higher cost to purchase copies of this significant work, it is worth it for all choral organizations to perform.  Highly recommended, despite the extra cost!
