I don't trust the cloud, yes even the desertcart cloud...sorry desertcart, so I have my own NAS device to store my files which has two mirrored hard drives. Still, even though when one HD failed I still had the mirrored copy, I was sweating it for a little while. I have been meaning to setup a backup system for some time and the "almost disaster" finally convinced me it was time. It just makes good sense to backup at least the most important files. I purchase this just for that reason. I did not need anything special and I already had a 500 GB hard drive so this fit the bill perfectly and at a good price. I had it up and running in about ten minutes. After downloading some backup software I am now backing up my files on a regular basis. All that said, this is a nice enclosure for under $10. I would not recommend it if you are a road warrior or plan to move it around a lot. It's just not that solid of an enclosure and I would not expect that for the price. If you intend to use it in a similar fashion as I described here, it will work well and I can recommend it. If you need something that can get banged around a lot, I would plan to spend some more money and purchase one a little more durable. Unboxed, dropped in an extra SATA HDD I had laying around, plugged into my USB3.0 slot and drivers were installed and recognized instantly. Also get great speeds with the 3.0 slot as it should!
