Review: Good for cutting and using as acne patches - absorbent! - Some years ago, when hydrocolloid bandages came into the commercial market, I bought some for a cut I had. When I saw how it absorbed fluid, it occurred to me, this stuff could be useful for zits. So, I cut up a bandage into squares and tried it. Sure enough, after one night, the patch had swelled up and the zit had gone down significantly. I used the bandages that way for a few years and then the “acne patches” came out. I’ve now tried numerous brands of acne patches but the companies who produce them are stuck on this idea of making them “ultra thin” and claiming they can be worn in public because they’re “invisible”. Well, that may be so, from a distance but, up close, they are definitely visible. So it seems dumb to me that these acne patch companies sacrifice absorbency for “thinness”. The thicker stuff sucks out SO much more goo. It’s a shame because the precut circles are much easier to use (especially with the perforated backing) but they just don’t make them thick enough. The bandage companies also have gotten on the “thin” wagon, but these are labeled “X-Thin” and they’re more than twice as thick as the thickest acne patches I could find. These absorb very nicely and are ok as far as adhesion goes, tho, I wish they were a bit stickier. Just be sure to get your face sneaky clean and dry before applying and cut your squares large enough to have a good border around the edges of your blemish and get a proper seal. Trust me y’all, this DIY pimple patch is WAY better AND less expensive than the ones made for acne. They do not look pretty but they WORK.
Review: Great for blisters/pressure spots under AFOs &/or shoes - I love these. I buy them for when my son gets pressure spots beneath his bilateral AFOs (Ankle Foot Orthotics.) They adhere well, stay on for a few days and can be removed without leaving a sticky residue or negatively impacting thevsore. For best results, I recommend holding your hand over the bandage for a few moments for optimal adherence and then soaking them in warm water to remove with ease. I sometimes put his socks over them to prevent him from picking at the bandages. I try to leave them on as long as I can before changing them so as to not disturb the healing process. My son usually hates bandaid but he tolerates these very well. I love that I can cut them to the size(s) I need. I wish they were a little more affordable but compared to other brands, they're priced about right. I've been buying them for years and will continue to do so.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: how long to keep the dressing on before changing it.? Can it be removed for wound clean and put it back on?**
A: Hydrocolloid dressings are designed to be left on for several days, typically between 3-7 (this is only in general; individual manufacturers may recommend a slightly different timeframe). However, this is only advisable if the dressing remains fully intact, less than 70% saturated and the wound is NOT infected. If the dressing is becomes detached for ANY reason (Eg: Falls completely off, starts to peel at the corner, or is intentionally removed), it’s considered “compromised” and must be disposed of. NEVER PUT IT BACK ON.

**Q: How thick are these patches?**
A: Measured "X-Thin" size with a micrometer: ~0.5 mm thick dressing (0.67 mm dressing + liner; 0.17 mm thick liner)

**Q: Is the patch waterproof? Does it stays even after showering**
A: Yes it stayed on without any problems at all.

**Q: Is this latex free?**
A: Search for Med Pride and call the 800 # on their site. There is no mention of latex on that page or the package that I can see. It feels like vinyl, but, I forgot one and it became a permanent part of my sock, so it could be latex. I just know they work and I want a larger size for my leg ulcers.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Adhesive takes time to stick (like ages)
*by R***D on June 14, 2021*

So I was having problems with red, raw skin round my stoma and decided as they make blister plasters out of hydrocolloid I'd try these. Got a sheet, cut the hole for my stoma, cleaned and dried everything, stuck this on and stuck the iliostomy bag on. Initially this didn't seem to stick well at all, but the belt I always wear ensured it stayed there. Changed it 2 days later and, woah! This thing has stuck like glue to me. Like stuck WAY WAY too well. I'm sure the act of peeling it off put my skin back to what it was before I tried to use it. Also the hydrocolloid didn't 'expand' / 'swell up' like this blister plasters do, so I'm not convinced these are giving me any benefit at all. Due to this I've only used one sheet out of 3 boxes, so a bit of a waste of money for me. (I found a different, better way of sorting my raw skin - mixed up a few antiseptic creams and just apply over damaged skin and then apply bag - changing bag every 2 days until sorted)
