Yamaha YRS24B Soprano Recorder

It is an inexpensive recorder, but somehow seems really cheap and the sound is not that great, but I have experience playing on quality instruments, so it might be a biased review. It comes with a handy cloth pouch.

This is a truly disappointing recorder from Yamaha, one I wish I had never met. There are way better Yamaha plastic descant recorders for a similar price. If you’re looking for a cheap option, buy the YRS302BIII. I especially wouldn’t recommend the YRS24B to beginners as the struggle to get a decent, consistently clear sound out of this model at any note above G’ will seriously compromise any sense of accomplishment and enjoyment for a beginner player, especially children. At the higher notes (above H’) the recorder requires a great deal of air and very strong tonguing to give clearish sounds (or in some instances any at all), and the lips have to be wrapped very tightly around the mouthpiece to avoid secondary notes creeping in constantly. There is also considerable vibration produced by the recorder at any note above G’. It would be pretty difficult for a beginner to develop the correct relaxed playing posture and hands with this instrument.The YRS302BIII is a considerably better model that produces a great sound. It allows novice players to learn the right blowing and tonguing techniques and actually enjoy making music. It only costs an extra £3-4.

As a retired teacher of the recorder I have used and recommended Yamaha recorders for many years.I was a little disappointed with this one that I bought for my grand daughter as the tuning didn't seem as totally accurate as previous ones I've purchased.My daughter tried it out and felt the same,too.

The music teacher at my daughter's elementary school requested we purchase a recorder but did not provide any advice on brand or model. We purchased this recorder based on the reviews we read and we're very happy we did. The sound is crisp and clear, listeners can easily distinguish the different notes being played, and the price was very reasonable for the quality. Turns out with the exception of one student, everyone in her class had the same recorder! I recommend this recorder to any parent looking for one for their child's music class. If this is not the "industry standard" for elementary school music classes, it should be.

Good product I like it so much

I purchased the Yamaha YRS-24B Soprano Descant Recorder, and it’s exactly what I was looking for. It has a nice, clean sound that’s easy to produce, making it great for beginners, students, or anyone wanting to relearn the recorder. The finger holes are comfortable, and the instrument feels lightweight without feeling flimsy.I also appreciate that it comes with a soft storage bag to help keep it clean and protected when not in use. The recorder appears well-made, and the classic ivory color gives it a nice traditional look.Overall, this is a quality recorder at a reasonable price. I’d definitely recommend it for school music classes or casual practice.

This is the specific recorder that was required for my child's booklist, the "soprano" type, and I couldn't find it in local stores so I was stoked to find it on Amazon. Excellent quality, as you'd expect from Yamaha, and a nice storage pouch.
