Review: Outstanding Machine For Passionate Coffee Lovers! - This is a fantastic coffee machine. I feel like a proper barista using it. It’s perfect for home use. Firstly it’s incredibly stylish ( I have the Brushed Stainless Steel ), sleek and easy to clean. The size is just perfect on the kitchen counter, we have a galley kitchen that isn’t particularly big but the machine fits in perfectly and is not too big. The instruction booklet is easy to read and helpfully has several pages clearly worded, with diagrams, on how to use and set the settings for first use. Also pages for troubleshooting. There are two settings for coffee dispensing - 1 shot or 2 shot. The frother is excellent and with a bit of practice ( and lots of YouTube tutorials) you can be making coffee art like a pro! The timer to dispense coffee and grind settings for the beans there are clear instructions what to set them to in the manual but I did alter slightly to reduce output and get a slightly finer grind of coffee. The great thing is it’s very easy to adjust to suit your taste/ beans and very user friendly. As you can see in the photos this Barista Pro machine delivers a professional level of creme on the coffee that you would expect in a high end independent coffee shop. The coffee comes out so smooth and flavourful as well as perfectly hot even if you have just turned the machine on. This is the perfect buy or gift for any coffee lover, a machine that respects the standards we now expect from our coffee and allows you to treat it as more of a passion and art form than most standard coffee machines. It’s never leaked and it’s very quiet as well. Looks stunning, easy to clean, great digital display, durable solid materials, well built and delivers a great cup of coffee.

It’s primarily a manual operation and you need to understand or want to learn the fundamentals of grind, dose, tamp, and extraction to get good results. Honestly, my first three pulls were terrible. I can imagine anyone expecting to press a button and get a good cup would be sorely disappointed. For me, I love the process of making my own coffee and continually experimenting and improving. With patience and skill, this machine will develop sweeter, richer, tastier espressos and lattes than you can find in most coffee shops. You will be fully rewarded for your investment in the machine, finding your perfect extraction, and using high quality, fresh beans. If you want to push a button, buy a Nespresso. **Q: Why does the pro version have a basic milk jug whereas the cheaper express version comes with a more expensive temp control milk jug?**
A: Yes strange but true. I manage by holding the jug in the palm of my hand. Once the temp is 60 degrees , I find it too hot and it's ready. I love my machine it's fabulous. Hope you go for it as a new temperature jug is only around 15 pounds.

**Q: Can you tell me whether the machine feeds excess water back into the water tank after it has brewed the coffee?**
A: The Sage® SES878 Barista Pro™ retains the water used for brewing espresso in the heating area.  If water is used for steam, the excess super heated water is flushed into the drip tray so that water can be added to the thermocoil and heated to the correct temperature for the next espresso extraction.

**Q: Is the black finish gloss or matte?**

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great machine for practicing your barista skills with

This is chalk and cheese compared to the Tassimo pod machine we used to have before going on a barista course. It looks the part and is easy enough to use. The default grind size & duration and (expressing) water temperature are way out though. I’m currently using a grind size five and 15.5 second grind, which produces 18g of ground coffee, but extraction starts after 7 seconds and is complete by 20 seconds. So, I’m going to have to go finer still. I’ve also increased the water temperature to max, but I’m still only registering 80C. Nevertheless, I’m getting closer to a great coffee with every tweak and have just about cracked milk frothing too. Would I change it if I had the opportunity? Absolutely not. I’m having way too much fun.
