The whole face of the watch lights up. It isn't just one corner. **Q: Do you have to replace the battery** A: Yes. The battery is I believe a 7-8 year battery. If you don't use the backlight on it very much (I rarely do) it will last for years. I have another G Shock that is going on six years without needing a battery. The G Shock watches with "Tough Solar" will never need a battery. The GD350-1CR that you are asking about, will need a battery at some point down the road. I love this G Shock.
