How will it work? I need 3-4 of them** A: If a "shepherd's rod" is the same thing as a "shepherd's hook", it will work fine. It stops the squirrels from climbing the pole, regardless of what kind of feeders you hang from the hooks. It's not actually attached to the pole, but the clamp it rests upon is. The shield then simply sits upon the clamp. Thus it is not solid, and will wobble and deflect ("bend over") when a squirrel tries to put his weight on it. It was fun to watch them try, though that was before they had their homeowners association meeting about which squirrel guards could be defeated. Now they don't even try. It will wobble even in a stiff wind - makes a weird sound. When properly installed, it will come over toward the squirrel when he tries to climb around it, and off he goes. I bought mine to replace one I had for many years on my primary feeder, which stands atop a pole about 5' high. The baffle is about a foot below the feeder. The only time I ever had a squirrel on the feeder was when we had one in the yard which we called Evel Knievel. He would try ANY jump. He landed on it once, and I moved the mounting pole three feet further away from the big locust tree. He quit trying to land on it from 15' above it, and I've never seen one on it since. I've used this one for 4 or 5 years after having the original one over 20. Go for it. Best squirrel baffle I ever saw, and since we live on the edge of a large woods, we've tried a bunch of them. One caveat - wild turkeys are another matter. They can fly, and they don't like looking for food in deep snow - or even a moderate snow. If you're feeding hummers, snow is no problem for them, but honeybees can be. Unfortunately, they can fly too, so this baffle won't work on them. We have a ranch-style house with a hip roof and a 3' soffit all around; we hang our hummer feeders from below the rain gutters on straightened coat hangers.
