Love it This was a gift to a 9 year ...
Love it This was a gift to a 9 year old, but I think his older brother age 13 put it together almost entirely. I don't know what its running now but it was a very good price when I got it. I almost bought it at that toy place, we all know. But I came over before hitting the purchase button there and found it 20 bucks cheaper here than the closeout deal there. WOW. ANd it is a wow. It looks great. It functions. The kids love it. I doubt I will ever be able to beat this one for the price and what you get for it. It is comparable to a $100 set of the other name brand. The kids all seem to love skylanders even though they don't have the game. They really love this and like I said, it looks impressive built. Very nice. 5 stars all the way. Might want to keep watch as you build it for a brick with a hole drilled in the middle. It's like most of the other bricks so be careful not to miss it, though I think Mega bloks does have a pc replacement program. Also on the castle tops, you have to work with nothing but air underneath to build on. The kids don't seem to get to apply counter pressure underneath with your hands to accomplish those parts. Again 5 stars. Looks great, kids love it, kept them working together for days, and to top it off, a fantastic price.

Love skylanders but not these blocks
So so so many pieces and the instructions aren't great.

Age limit set to low but made a great impression as a gift
Excellent gift for the Lego & Skylander fanatic grandchild. I bought this for a 5 year old boy & the only thing I was told was that he still needed a hand at putting it together at times. That tells me that the age limit set for this castle was set to low & it should have been set higher. My grandson loves putting Lego's together but this one was a little to tough for him.

Just terrible. A week after assembling a 1200-piece Lego set ...
Just terrible. A week after assembling a 1200-piece Lego set with essentially no parental help, my 7 year old attempted to construct this set. It was a total disaster. The instructions were indecipherable and the pieces fit together poorly at best. The colored dot systems make almost no sense and there is no phasing, like Legos, with numbered bags, which means that you have 1,000 pieces scattered on the floor at once. Both my son (who got it as a birthday gift) and I were completely disappointed by this set, which we ended up packing back up in the box and shoving in a closet. Wish Skylanders had chosen to partner with Lego instead!

Doesn't assemble correctly
Generally, when I see a building-blocks set this large and elaborate, I expect it to be a little tricky to put together -- but I also expect it to be thoroughly tested and completely functional. This one, unfortunately, isn't. The main body of the castle assembles fine (though the instructions are fiddly in a few places, when you can't really see the place a block is supposed to go because the illustration is tilted). The Kaos, Glumshanks, and Igniter figures are great, and the castle has some nice features (a secret door, a roof-mounted cannon, a trap that dumps barrels on unsuspecting Skylanders, and cool decorations). The problem is the towers. The four pieces that assemble into each tower's battlements are hard to attach firmly to the underlying studs -- rather than the normal setup, the bottoms of these pieces just have continuous patterns of circles. While presumably cheaper to make than standard stud receptors, they also don't hold on well, and keep falling apart during assembly. I was able to make them work by pressing down firmly with my thumb and up on the underside with the rest of my hand, but even then they were finicky and it took several tries to make them stick. Fortunately, once you have them in place once other bricks go to the center and will hold them steady. Worse, the two pieces that serve as the base of the tall central tower don't attach to the studs underneath them at ALL. They have the same kind of bottom, just circles, and in this case they're slopes instead of flat so the same method can't be used to hold them in place. My husband and I both tried, and couldn't get the things to stay in place for more than a moment. I ended up building the area above them with the tower pieces still loose. The tower kept falling apart. I eventually got it into place long enough to finish the castle, but if it falls apart again I'm strongly tempted to just superglue them in. The same tower is supposed to have a little room in the back with a gate that swings open. When the tower is fully assembled the gate can't be opened; the points run into the archway above and get stuck. The spinning throne in the room above it doesn't quite work, either -- it also keeps getting caught on the blocks around it. The idea of the sheep catapult is delightful. Unfortunately, the sheep are a lot heavier than (for instance) the balls that come in the World of Warcraft sets. They thus tend to fly in a very low arc -- perfectly all right for play, but the box implies that you're supposed to try to shoot the sheep through the hoop over the castle. That ain't gonna happen. The swirling portal above the castle is supposed to be provided by a cardboard image held in place with pegs. There's nothing to KEEP it on the pegs, though. It ended up slipping off immediately. Finally, the Bouncer figure is really top-heavy and keeps falling on his face. His smoke trail helps to keep him standing up and would have been a clever solution to the problem, but it's simply not heavy enough. It needed a little more plastic to act as a counterweight. Overall ... a lot of this set is absolutely delightful, and I really wanted to like it. But too many of its features just don't work properly and too many of its blocks just don't connect together firmly. And this is the big bravura set of a high-profile product line. I'd really have expected better.

given to my granddaughter for christmas
This was a great gift for my 9-year old grand daughter at Christmas. She and I both love Skylanders Wii game and she is just getting into Legos. This was a little challenging for her and she did have to enlist the help of and older step brother to help her assemble it the first time. Once put together, she played with it for hours and then took it apart and put it back together herself (the second time around). I will probably buy her another one next Christmas.

Time consuming but worth it
This was a great price! Couldn't pass it up. Only took me like a week to put together tho. A little hard to get the roof pieces to go on and stay on, but I was overall pleased with this product. My son has since tore it all apart and there is no way I'm rebuilding it. Lol

Great gift. Pieces not organized the best way
Great gift. Pieces not organized the best way. I have never played legos and it took me 4 hours to put together. The most difficult part is trying to find tiny pieces. its a 3 part castle so if you have a help it'll be done a lot quicker. has little figures. my 5 and 6 year old absolutely love it!!

happy skylanders fan!
One very happy Skylanders fan with this!! Pieces are same size and quality as Lego and very sturdy. My 6 yo required adult assistance building it but hours of fun with it. Very pleased and fantastic price considering how much the Lego builds cost. And it is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. Very happy!!

Bought this for my 5year old grandson for Christmas. ...
Bought this for my 5year old grandson for Christmas. I have so far spent about 10hours trying to build it. The plans are misleading and in some cases inaccurate. I am not going to have enough pieces to finish it. This has been a very disappointing purchase, both to myself and my grandson ,who keeps asking when he can play with it.
