I didnt explore any work/hack arounds. However, it does work with multiple adapters of the same make or model - or maybe they just need to support DisplayLink **Q: How is the lag on this device? can it smoothly play video?** A: No lag issues here. It does a few weird graphical things but video works perfect. **Q: can i use this backwards from cpu hdmi out to usb 3 monitor?** A: No. **Q: Does this product work on ubuntu 16?** A: Works out of the box with on Ubuntu 17.10 with the latest Display Link driver (from the Display Link website) installed. Installed the driver without fanfare per the website instructions. Plugged in the device after receiving it 2 days later and fired right up.
