Review: Works as advertised - I bought this winch to lift a 4 foot x 8 foot train platform up to the ceiling of my garage. I bring the train down each year for Christmas. I used to use a pulley system and brute force. This winch is a HUGE improvement. I was quite impressed that I could release the handle while lowering this fairly heavy train platform and it would hang mid air just as advertised. It works great and I am very pleased. Just be sure the cable is attached to the reel as described in the instructions. A friend of mine bought one for the same use and didn't follow the instructions. Ops, the cable pulled out. So no short cuts, just follow the instructions and you will be happy.

I bought this winch to lift a 4 foot x 8 foot train platform up to the ceiling of my garage. I bring the train down each year for Christmas. I used to use a pulley system and brute force. This winch is a HUGE improvement. I was quite impressed that I could release the handle while lowering this fairly heavy train platform and it would hang mid air just as advertised. It works great and I am very pleased. Just be sure the cable is attached to the reel as described in the instructions. A friend of mine bought one for the same use and didn't follow the instructions. Ops, the cable pulled out. So no short cuts, just follow the instructions and you will be happy.

Works very well but the threads on the drive shaft were not cut to specifications; the nut would not thread onto it. Had to re-cut them.
