Kid Cudi is an American hip hop recording artist and actor from Cleveland, Ohio. He first gained major attention after the release of his debut mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi (2008). The mixtape caught the attention of American record producer and rapper-executive Kanye West, who subsequently signed Cudi to his GOOD Music label imprint in late 2008. Kid Cudi's debut album Man on the Moon: The End of Day (2009) was later certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 2010, he released Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. In April 2013, Kid Cudi released Indicud, which became his highest-charting album on multiple charts. In February 2014, Cudi unexpectedly announced he would be parting ways with GOOD Music during a Twitter rant. Kid Cudi has since launched his own independent record label imprint, Wicked Awesome Records. In 2016, Kid Cudi released his sixth studio album, Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin'. The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200, selling 148,000 equivalent album units in its first week. It received generally positive reviews from critics and was supported by four singles: "Frequency", "Surfin'", "Swim in the Light" and "By Design".
